Weird Firefox stuff

Well, I was just looking at my Firefox usage in the processes tab of my task manager window and when using it, the mem usage consistently rises. When I first open it, it says it's using about 55,000 K. However, after about 45 mins, I'll reopen the task manager and it will say Firefox is using about 125,000 k even though I have only one tab/window open! Why is this happening?

It likes to cache bits of visited sites into ram, plus it also has a bit of a memory leak.

If you want to reduce the amount of ram used, type about:config into your address bar and hit enter.

Next, type cache into the filter box. Scroll down to browser.cache.memory.capacity and double click it. Reduce the number to whatever you want. Try 20000, and play around with it from there.

If you want to totally disable it, you can double click browser.cache.memory.enable, and set it to false. This will likely slow down the loading of frequently visited pages tho.

Yep, firefox is no longer a starving, boney and angry browser.

Its turning into a giant.

But its performance isn't suffering

Probably THE most successful open source program ever.

Taking up memory is not necessarily a memory leak.

Windows vista for example.

That's fine. I have heard it used to have a memory leak, that was the only site where i actually found information that backed up the issues. But I don't remember if it had anything on a memory leak or a solution to it. Good site though, has all sorts of stuff on it.

I'm not a Firefox fan due to the fact that I'm assuming I'm not a Linux fan and don't like to mess with it to get it to work right aside from let's say Opera that you install and it works, or IE7, update Xp or install Vista and it works. But FF is a good browser from what I've heard, but just like any other browser. But Opera is a memory hog and so is IE7 when so many tabs are open. Glad FF supporters like you can come in and clear things up. But just so ya know, I've heard more bad than good about FF compared to ANY other browser, it's pretty close to a tie with IE, but I've heard more good from more people about IE and Opera than I've ever heard of FF, maybe there's a reason, maybe it's just fanboys. I just hope the browser works for those who do like it, and that it doesn't hog or flood resources.
