What are you considering stable? How long do you run prime or IBT?


Looks like a pretty good chip though regardless. I have horrible luck with CPUs.

Not that long but enough to see if the system doesn't crash, I will run IBT till tomorrow morning than I let you know

I'd caution you on running IBT with high voltages, odds are you won't get a stable clock above 4.8 anyway, and testing for it just results in degradation. Consider it stable enough if you can run some benchmarks etc with the high overclock, then go back to something like 4.6-4.7ish for daily.

What's the point of driving a turbocharged car like an old lady because you're worried about the engine wearing out? Never bought that whole degradation idea anyway.

This has to do with C-States and Intel Speed step (Commonly called when overclocked "Offset Overclocking") It is a great option to use once a stable overclock has been established. It means that you will not have load voltage running through your CPU at all times.

What's the point of driving a turbocharged car like an old lady because you're worried about the engine wearing out? Never bought that whole degradation idea anyway.

My point isn't about overclocking, its about running Intel Burn Test at a very high voltage for a period of time when the cpu's core voltage is 1.45v. The current draw would be extremely high, that's certain to degrade it... I guarantee IVB isn't going to be fully stable at 5.0+ unless you have some kind of exotic cooling like phase-change or peltier, so why put the CPU through the abuse? Stability test it with some benchmarks instead.

I'd be surprised too. Either it'll crash or hit thermal throttling, but no pain, no gain!

Maybe I am just lucky, the CPU passed the test, so for 9 hours stressing the cpu, no crash, no reboots, so in my concern 5.0 were stable for 9 hours!
I agree with you about to put the CPU through such kind of abuse, I don't have any kind of exotic cooling but
That was the minimum that i expected from my around 800€ custom water cooling

You're the first I've heard of anyone getting 5.0 Ghz with an IB on water, and passing a torture test. Golden chip... congrats!!!

If you are inclined, it'd be awesome to see SuperPI 1m and 32m results.
