weird spot on brand new mobo

I just received my brand new motherboard Asrock b550 mini itx and i noticed this weird spot here, since some people said it looked burned im afraid to build my parts onto the board to test out if its even working.

Might be worth returning it. Check functionality carefully and return it if in any doubt. That's definitely a defect, no matter how small, a quality control issue. There could be other issues with this board that you don't know about.

Thats the BIOS chip (or other firmware retention). w25q16 series by the looks of it. could be solder, or the paint that was meant to mark pin1. If that chip was damaged the machine simply would not function (eeprom doesnt really do instability like RAM. It either works or it doesnt.)

If the machine boots try not to let it haunt your dreams and move on.
