I laughed, both at the title and the quote. Good find.
LOL, its not down to skill, its down to the input device. In FPS titles, a keyboard and mouse setup is far superior to a control pad.................and you know this
Something like this would have been perfect for racing games, maybe even RTS, and of course MMO's but it would never have worked for FPS, keyboard/mouse beats controller every time.
I'm not convinced the whole project should have been scrapped, but maybe scaled back to not include FPS games.
I am not denying what your saying is true.... but surely if that alone was the case, why would Consoles not be designed and bundled with a mouse/basic 12 key pad as standard?
Because the console is designed to be played in your living room. So playing them with a mouse and keyboard isnt practical m8. I know some do sit very close to their TV/monitor, so a keyboard and mouse setup would be great, but the console market only caters for the casual gamer (which I know is wrong).
Its just easier for the game devs to program a console title with a standard control pad in mind.
Rahul Sood is an idiot. Id love to see how many PC gamers could beat me on Street Fighter IV using a keyboard and mouse, whilst I use an XBOX 360 control pad LOL (Im sure you guys get what I mean)
But you rarely use all of the keys in a keyboard when playing anyway. There are even TWO Ctrl keys, TWO Alt keys, TWO Shift keys, the individual letters, the F# keys, etc.
I've even seen "mini keyboards" that's just a size of a mouse pad.
Im not quite sure what your point is?
Playing Shadowrun on the XBOX 360 against someone online thats using a PC was terrible. A mouse and keyboard setup is far more responsive than a control pad. This statement by Rahul Sood is based on this.
Make a standard of interface for both platforms. Meaning, both use the Xbox 360 gamepad or both use the same keyboard+mouse interface. PC would have the advantage of more power translating into less client side lag but at least the interface would be even. I use Xbox 360 Wireless gamepad on all ports and it kills having a Xbox 360. When a large percentage of hit Xbox 360 games are ported to PC and they look, sound, and play better with the same controller, what is the point of having a console anymore? I predict consoles will become extinct when the exact same thing is on PC but better.
I used to play Unreal Tournament on Dreamcast with the Dreamcast proprietary keyboard+mouse and I had a big advantage over the people using gamepads, but the game was still playable for all. The interface issue maybe be greater in peoples minds than in reality. Some people are more successful with a gamepad anyways.
They could have easily required a Xbox 360 controller for Windows in order to network the game with consoles. The playing field would be level. No Xbox 360 controller, you are stuck playing against other Windows players.
That would have been a cool idea. But the PC gamer would have found a way around this and wouldnt have liked the fact that they have been 'forced' to purchase a controller .
If MS etc would just allow console gamers to use a mouse and keyboard if they wish to do so, it would be a step in the right direction.
Finding a way around it would result in banning (it's the equivilent to cheating). They wouldn't be forced to purchase a 360 controller unless they wanted to play against Xbox 360 players; most wouldn't.
As you previously said, part of the appeal of consoles is not having a keyboard/mouse which makes it easy to pick up virtually any game and play it. It is therefore better for PC gamers to downgrade than console gamers to upgrade.
Yeah, thats true.
Well i thought it might make it against the law to have a mouse and keyboard on a console as it would make it a computer there fore they would not be able to class it as a console.
I dont think so m8.
^ what he said
Lol ...... wireless? they would sit nicely on the arms of my armchair
I think the OS (POSIX/Windows) defines a device as a console or a computer. A PS3, for example, with Linux installed on it, is hard to call a console. Likewise, a stock Wii is hard to call a computer.
Yes thats why I said "12 key keypad"
In general, PC gamers tend to be smarter and more 'hardcore' than console users. That's why the title said 'it's official', most people take know this, and I'm not surprised! It's just official now
I think what the article is trying to say is something like PC gamers are better than console gamers because for games like SF IV, Pc gamers can fix a controller and play but console users cant fix a keyboard and mouse to play FPS on the console. I think thats what Rahul Sood is trying to point out. So you can never go wrong with a PC
I just laughed my ass off when i read this.
P:S- No offense to console gamers. That sentence is just hilarious.
the level of precision, control and timing required for PC games isnt present in console games due to the... i dunno, loose/soggy/vague/etc nature of controllers.
i dont own anything other than a wii and i very rarely play consoles... but when i do get talked into it, i usually end up dominating my console owning friends who play these games daily.
I'd probably enjoy consoles more if I could use a mouse and keyboard and had the customisability of the console. I wish MS could figure out a way to get something like xbl OS for the pc platform.
Thats why the reticules and aim areas are ridiculously bigger on consoles
and why they use a narrower FOV, use auto-aim, make hitboxes larger...
