Well MS seems to hate Windows 7 users.

Yeah it's legit Windows 7 Ultimate which is supported until 2020 yet they are hell bent on us moving to 10 LOL.

Maybe i will use their backdoor to free Win 10 again but right now i can't be bothered.

Also SP1 is a Windows update lol what they gonna do withhold it?

What i do not like is the cramming of Windows 10 down my throat the very minute i had to fall back to Windows 7 because their new OS is such a finicky flaky thing if you dare to try do anything with it.

So are you not updated to 7 SP1 in the above screenshot, correct? (you posted that screenshot before I finished my post.)

I see the link at the bottom left...were you updating when this message appeared?

If so I'm not all that surprised... nobody should be running 7 pre-SP1 on purpose unless that's the install media you have. You do know that you can go to MS and enter your key and download the ISO and I bet you'll get Ultimate with SP1 as that ISO...

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

Last time I used it, worked great! Hopefully it will for you as well in the future if you need it!

Can't say I'd call Windows 10 flaky though, and no more than 7 was in its first year or two for sure... But in the same breath, 10 isn't without bugs and faults...for example, I had a recent audio issue I solved by raising the min CPU percentage in advanced power settings for example, but it was fixable.

What you should do You should do if you like changing GUI's is Linux, lots of nice ones and not too tough to do! Far better than Windows in that respect IMHO. :)

Yes this is Windows 7 as released from day 1 install, obviously i have to install updates but it's just plain odd that thing was literally the first update to be installed.

Fresh non-SP1 install. So that's not all that surprising to me, SP1 is the Windows 7 standard everyone adores so much anyways.

Useful information again man you are a wonder around here cheers!

Thanks for the kind words! I try to help where I can...TPU is a great place like that, a lot of great help and a damn fine community.

Ok, so MS are strongly recommending W10 on a fresh W7 circa 2009 build install, but still let you install SP1 and further updates. C'mon Reckon, there's nothing wrong with this. :) Just a little encouragement that's all and I would do the same thing.

Tell me, did the patch scan time take hours to do or was it timely? I recently found that it took something like 12 hours from a fresh SP1 or no SP install. Googling it confirmed this to be a problem with only half solutions rather than a proper fix, rather unsurprisingly.

I have had this installed for roughly 3 hours and have gotten everything up to date in regards to security, i have latest MS security essentials, Malwarebytes etc, i'm just letting the OS update it's self now, as i type that SP1 is 97% complete. I have crap internet so honestly not too bad TBH only 19.5 mbps connection.

I use this site on fresh installs.

@qubit Well they're advertising their shiniest newest product, and their marketing is uber effective and probably cost effective too...folks just are learning how easy it is for them to go that far. I'm not surprised, we've been seeing ads on driver installs and product updates for years now. How is a Windows Update any different? To Microsoft it was probably pure gold to simply push that.

What I don't like is how they went about suggesting it and making the option you want a little less clear to locate initially. Like with Windows 8 and a Microsoft Account instead of a local account, I was very annoyed at first and as-soon-as I learned how to bypass that shit I did. That was 4 years ago. So honestly, not surprised they're making things a pain in the ass here. It's not right I'll agree, but it also isn't the end of the world and to me it's no more annoying that Amazon was on Ubuntu, though that you could at least remove when it was that annoying, now it is much better.

All its saying is if you don't go to sp1 you don't receive updates. The updater changed post sp1 and the older shit isn't supported anymore.

That is counter intuitive though, i am receiving security updates to SP1 and beyond so the written stuff is only a half truth, it's just another advert to push Windows 10 lol.

Why are you upset they want people to update to 10? Who cares... If you aren't going to update then cool, but you are running an outdated as fuck copy of 7.

I still run 7 sp1 at work with zero ads and zero issues. Hell I have an xp machine for a couple specific things.

Sounds like you got lucky with that first time update, or perhaps Microsoft have fixed it until the next time. I'll have to try a test install in a VM and see how it goes.

My connection is about a meg less than yours.

Yes, they certainly have a way putting their preferred option front and centre and hiding the others, quite deviously at times. Can't say that I like that about them either. It's stuff like that which gets them a bad rap from users who are understandably pissed off about it. This seems to get them a perception of being a lot more evil than they really are.

Yeah it's legit Windows 7 Ultimate which is supported until 2020 yet they are hell bent on us moving to 10 LOL.

Only SP1 is supported until 2020. Apparently you skipped a service pack. If you pay attention, it's "educating" you about Windows 10 but offering you Windows 7 SP1.
