What about a Science & Technology forum?

Any thoughts on adding a new subforum for topics like general science, astronomy, biology, environment, physics, chemistry and similar ?

really though, GN is a different forum. if it's on there it may as well be on tom's hardware,
cause i won't see it. I know it is one community and all, but it's simply not the same.

I vote to add it here. even if it's restricted to practical technology in science rather
than theoretical science, it would be better here.

topics are always being discussed on gn.net already. Personally I would like to see TPU expand on other areas that we already have such as gaming. Just my take on it anyways.

"It's not the same" because a lot of TPU regulars avoid it like the plague. :shadedshu

It's like going to ride a bus that only leaves when it's full. But you only see around 2-3 seats occupied out of the 30, and you say "this would take too long" and opt not to ride it. So if the majority of those people that starts to plan to ride that bus chooses instead not too, then it would be less likely that it would ever be full.

It's "not the same" because you think the same, "Oh, GN isn't the same so I'll avoid it." Well, if you avoid it, how would it be "the same as TPU" then, if many TPU regulars don't go there?

Science and Technology topics and articles have been discussed and posted for ages there already (in the "From the News" section usually). If you truly wanted to discuss such topics, you wouldn't put out some "it's not the same" excuse. "It's not the same" because many TPU people avoid it, not because it was inherently different in the first place.

I would like to see the addition of Audio and Gaming. There are two areas that can be easily expanded into the TPU forum.

The problem with adding a science sub-forum is that you'd have the two or three people that think they know everything about it (they may actually do, I'm just saying), trading words over what ever is being discussed. We already have science debates/topics at GN.net, and the two users that come to mind are Twilyth and FordGT. Now both are either very clever, or have a very good way of winging it. The whole discussion turns into those two battling it out every time...

maybe for technology things that contain posts not only from TPU contributors but the members too so the general hardware room would completely contains hardware only

I think GN is the place for this type of stuff because the debate will more often float away into political/social/relious opinion rather than technical.

GN could do with more members and promotion and might be a much busier place!

I'm all for it.
I would like to see TPU expand its scope in various areas, including, as Erocker said, the sections we already cover (especially gaming ... but I'm biased ).
If it does not work well, it can always be adjusted/modified/removed.

As far as threads getting political or whatever, and getting out of hand ... that's why we're here.
Feel free to add me as a mod to the section if there is a need.
