Hello, I have a AM2 socketed Asus A8N-BR (HP OEM) board that is Mini-ITX in size. I will be replacing a bad cap on it and re-using it in a custom build in the future.

Originally it had a 32w Athlon X2 3800+ in it. I want to drop in a 65w model or even a 125w model and give it a proper heatsink... but I am afraid the power circuitry on the board cannot take the 125w or 65w models. I'd like to put a X2 6000+ in it, but I don't absolutely NEED to have that much horsepower at tap. I have taken a picture of what I have and have found an **Removed-No ebay links**, if it makes it easier to find some information on it. ASUS's site does not show the board as existing.

Does anyone know the max wattage this thing could handle on the CPU..I don't want to fry it out..and since 32w AM2 cpus are rare as hell, I was simply going to buy a 65 or 125w model.

David.

Yes, though it also needs to be compatable on the wattage side. This particular motherboard doesn't as it can only handle a 35w processor.

that should say everything a properly done remake could get you to a 95w mobo i also recommend you place the mosfets in a fashion that allows you to actively cool them. the board could do a 65w chip with an undervolt from the factory (have seen a phenom 9150 on this board) but it has to be undervolted a good bit to stay stable (.7v) which put it around 45w and that was bone stock mobo

The BIOS also has to support them, and its unlikely HP will release a BIOS that supports the newer processors.

On a side note, since when have ebay links been not allowed? I know they aren't allowed in the BST and Hot Deals forum, but they've always been allowed in normal posts asking for advise related to the ebay item...

Only if there is an identical non-OEM board, which is rare.

It seems you have more experience with this bored than me..and that mosfet/choke upgrade is interesting. I'm thinking about doing that just for fun.

Besides that however, I have a question for you. How would I go about undervolting say, a 9150 on this bored? I noticed that the BIOS doesn't have these options, like other more feature filled boards. I am almost unaware of any third party BIOS roms for this bored.

if you could get it to boot into windows you could use K10stat to undervolt the cpu.

your best bet is to get any 45w chip and just run that with some active cooling on the mosfets

I've seen a 45w sempron on newegg, so maybe I'll try that. Thank you!
