I know that Norton might rock, but myself personally, I can't tolerate the way it uses all of my ram and slows my computer down. I use spy bot, but that isn't enough. Is there anyone out there who knows of an antivirus program that will not eat up my bank account or my computer's capacity to function at a normal rate? Thank you for your time......

welcome to TPU
i use AVG free version but i mark my c: as exception as AVG is too often aggressive
avira is good too
or if you wanna take a look you can checkhere

microsoft essentials or avg free

both are very solid, use very little resources, and are free

kaspersky is my preferred AV, with MSE second. none are perfect.

Kaspersky gets my vote. been using it since 2003!! - Stay away from Norton and McAfee.

none are perfect.

agree. theres no the best. better is yes and you still need update it regularly to maximize the protection :toast:

Avast and adaware both free.

I use Avast for it's real time protection and Malwarebytes for scanning files I'm unsure about, etc.

Avast is definitely my daily AV...I can recommend Microsoft Essentials as well. Malwarebytes does rock for spyware removal.

ESET Smart Security is good....also Comodo Internet sucurity and Avast antivirus are fine.

ESET Smart Security is good

My uncle had this on his PC....When i went to visit him a year later he was complaining of constant PC and internet slow downs and it turns out that his pc was totally infested up to the tits with trojans, worms and viruses. It was utterly horrific! even I refused to operate on it cuz i was so scared that touching his PC would give me digital lurgies.

Well the best AV and firewall combo is smart pc user which do download too much warez or visit xxx sites every day.

It's all totally subjective and transitory. I'd say Avast or MSE

kaspersky is my preferred AV, with MSE second. none are perfect.

Using both with super anti spyware and malwarebytes as scanners. Thought about. giving esete a try

Microsoft Security Essentials = Free
Kaspersky = Paid

we use MSE at work no issues and i use kaspersky for personal use, best AV imo

Norton internet security 2012, state of the art and does an impeccable job, pulse updates, idle scans, install and forget it exists...

Stay away from Norton and McAfee.

I use both and have had no issues since 2003. The ones I use are provided from work free of charge (retail version Symantec Endpoint Protection and McAfee Enterprise).

OP, you'll get varying answer for that question, personally I use avast, coming from avira (false positive galore) and MSE (file browsing slow down). Have seen some friends' pc screwed up by avg though, so I suggest to stay away from it.

I find it hard to believe Norton slows down pcs and eats ram, unless one has 512MB ram and a cpu with like 1Ghz, ive use norton all all my pc life, playing games, running benchmarks and never noticed performance issues, for me this is just a myth...

I think i tried karperski sometime and it screwed my downloads and Internet productivity, i also used panda on a cousin's pc and it was like cancer, once installed it was really hard to remove...

i use KIS (Kaspersky Internet Security CBE11) and i am happy with it ^^

it does everything, no virus, trojan, spyware and so on, i tell ppl to use it bcs than they r pretty much safe but still u can't be 110% safe no one is.

I use KAV i keep more control that way

I used Avast and AVG and were fine but now I have NOT antivirus installed. Kaspersky, Avira and NOD32 are also fine but I didn't tried them personally. Avoid Norton, McAffe and Panda and some obscured ones.
