What are some of your PC building pet peeves?

Too many zip ties, Mesh cases, RGB, People that think you have some magic secret keystroke that instantly fixes things and you charge too much

As far as getting older. I had a cataract removed and wear progressive glasses. It's a amazing, i can see like i'm twenty again

Again, it is on the motherboard makers. I had many motherboards with connections facing the side panel (perpendicular to the motherboard) and some of my newer boards have connections facing the front of the chassis (parallel with the board). I have had a single chassis with USB 3 Type C, and that connection was a ninety degree plug!

I guess it would be nice to have just the 90° angle adapter then , that way you could use it if you needed it ,and not use it if you didn't need it. I've never had a case with the female port facing the bezel, maybe its an asrock thing

My AsRock is facing the side of the case, it was Asus boards that had the ones facing the bezel.

Having to buy a more expensive mobo just to get enough sata connectors sucks balls just put as many as the chipset supports on the mobo and be done with it please also manufacturers who make large cases and psu's but the psu cables aren't quite long enough to reach forcing you to buy their overpriced extension cable kits (I'm Looking at you Silverstone)

Always bothered me that case maker or motherboard maker that i have have had never came with ram support, when a system being built it's a none issue but later in life adding or problem hunting require taking out or inserting memory sticks.

For many years i been using a block or 2 of foam that has a single sticky side that you just stick to the case so when the rams pushed in it stops the motherboard from bending.

SATA cable connectors that are either too loose or too clingy. Sure you don't have to do it often but when you're upgrading/updating the storage on your servers, it's a royal pain in the butt.

I always thought this was the inevitable result of continual cost cutting. Having to use SATA cables that weren't provided with the mobo is still a bit of a shock to me.

The way most (all?) cases use panel screws or thumb screws with machine threads, but no real female threads, just sheet metal, dimpled and threaded with a tap. They work okay if you're careful, but if you ever get in a hurry and cross-thread one, you're "screwed", because after a while they'll get stripped and won't start easily or hold tightly. This is especially noticeable on cheap cases with thin steel, but can happen even with the more expensive ones. Mostly a problem on the left side panel thumbscrews, as they are removed most frequently, but I've had a few cases with dodgy threads in the motherboard tray, and stand-offs got cross-threaded and never would tighten down properly. As a 40 year auto mechanic, this would always bother my sense of mechanical integrity, like having an extra bolt left over when the engine job is done. High-use threads like side panels should have a real nut spot-welded to the sheet metal. I wonder if they do it right on $900 cases like the Phanteks ENTHOO ELITE?

Static. Recently effed up the memory, or it might be the HDD (Dell OptiPlex). The error codes don't mean shit because there are 10 different interpretations of each one!!

Wouldn't it be nice to standardize the error codes? The Automotive industry managed to do it, and there are fewer MB manufacturers, than auto manufacturers!

Nothing serious but when done assembling my PC I found out that I missed one little screw to fasten the PSU so it's fastened with 3 screws now instead of 4. All good.

For me I just do the old Criss-Cross Effect "Where you put only two screws in" from up right too bottom left ow for MB I use around 4 where needed

Hmm, I'm always careful with screwing down a motherboard and using all and the correct screws for that, if not you could run into issues later on.
Fastening a PSU in a case with just 3 screws isn't all that important as a proper mounted motherboard IMO.

Case fans that come with plastic push-pins to hold them in place due to rubber anti-vibration grommets that can't be screwed in place.

SSD mounting trays in plastic that allow the drives to rattle around.

CPU coolers/mounts that require custom tools to install/remove the cooler.

The bag of random screws that doesn't seem to be for anything that comes with some cases.

I literally use new screws and stand offs every single time I remove them along with the fiber washer....
One day I'll go back through the once used screws but that'll be at least 10 builds away..... eBay bulk buy from China

You're not supposed to use the "fiber washers" on modern motherboards, as it prevents the motherboards from grounding properly...

i've been wondering a long time why high end cases dont come with built in HDD docks, one molex/sata power cable, and hidden away extensions for the sata cables themselves

Because they add $10-15 to the cost of the case? Lian-Li added a backplane to some of their cases, but only for some of the drives, which was a silly move...

Ive had a little think about it and come to the conclusion that the thing that annoys me most when Im building a PC is my wifes attitude.

Zipties! Seriously, don't f'n use them, it just makes servicing the PC so much harder for the next guy. I can't count the number of times a computer has come into my shop and to replace whatever part has failed(usually the PSU or HDD), I have to cut like 50 zipties. And I know I'm probably no the only one that has been trying to cut a ziptie off that was in a hard to reach area, and accidentally cut a wire.

Seriously, if you want to make your wires look nice and tie them up out of the way, go on ebay and spend $10 for 400 Twist Ties! They look as good as zipties, actually nicer since they are smaller and actually harder to see in the end, and they are easy to remove by hand, and they are re-usable!

i hate the current state of header plugs on motherboards. even the good ones are a total Pain in the A$$. when will they make an easy system, that DOESNT involve tiny little plugs?

I wish they'd just settle on a standard, they almost have, and then just make it one single plug like the USB headers!

People who put things in random sockets without caring. Hard drive in SATA port 3, optical drive in port 1, cards in whatever slot they feel like putting them in, you get the idea.

Ah NO not exactly a good idea to use plastic coated wire ties to hold power cables in place I've seen PC's catch on fire using those they start acting like a mini transformer better to use something like this
