Hi Experts,

What are the odds I can get this beauty up and running. It has only lights, no fan, no picture when turned on. Thee damage is on the pcb edge area below the fingers

If only the PCB is damaged, it should not be causing those issues. If the traces in the PCB are damaged, good luck.

Unless youre a really good electrician (a proper specialist) you wont be able to repair it.

Ive seen folks do this on YT and it takes quite a lot of skill to make sure the job is done properly and safe to use. You run the risk of shorting out your PCI-E slot or even frying it or your motherboard if you dont know what youre doing.

Hi,
I'd guess all that is happening is the connector in the pci-e slot aren't being guided onto the gpu pins and possibly you bent them trying to install the gpu as it is

Check the pci-e slot pins if bent it means you need to sweeten up/ tapper the transition spot on the gpu with bondo or something that drys hard.

That damage should not have any effect. Nothing of value hidden down by that edge. If it is not working, there is a different issue.

Electrician =! electronics techician. I know and have worked with electricians and I wouldn't trust any of them with a PCB.

It's a XFX MERC 6800XT and it's not mine. It was given to me to see if I could make some magic.
Hi,
Only magic is recreating the tapper and of course likely fixing the bent pci-e slot pins on the mother board.

Thank you. I was going to sand down the area under the microscope and do what you said. was going to attempt to use a kind of super glue epoxy mixed with baking soda to rebuild the area and then sand down again to match the surrounding area. also yes there is a slight bend/dent which sort of makes about 3 pins slope up and down

A PCB doesn't need "rebuilding" because it's just dead material to hold traces, pins, chips, etc. in place. ;)

What do you mean with "3 pins sliding up & down"? Are they loose? On the pic they don't look like loose. Or do you mean the PCB is bent and the 3 pins can't make contact with the PCIe slot? Don't know if that's even possible, never seen. Biggest question would be what happend to the card? If it was dropped the damage could be somewhere else, under the hood.

P.S.: is the far right okay? The lead on the 2 bottom spots looks pretty toasted, maybe it has blown some parts off.

sloping....not sliding. If you look at the image you'll notice if you look left to right that there is a hump where the damage is. possibly not making contact with the slot properly in that area. nothing is loose and I have no idea what you mean by the leds being toast. I don;t see any of that at all. as for what happened? really not sure because it was given to me and they think it was jammed up against something but cant confirm, unit seems to power on and the leds turn on but no image or fan spin......gonna smooth it out and see if it works if not ill whip out the multimeter

Yea, it's hard to see from that angle how far the bent goes. If it's up to the contacts, then it could be the issue. If it's only the plane area, it shouldn't be an issue.

If it's bent you might just try to carefully bent it back. Putting lead on it might be riskier.

The "toasted area" I was taking about, mabe compare it to online pics of the card if everything is alright there:

Filed edge down....smoothed out any humps gently .....going to test tonight ...this is the part you asked about under the scope P.S Ok test complete....RGB lights come on (pretty) but the fans don't spin and no action on the image. I'm thinking power is not getting to where it needs to be

Well, doesn't look like there is something missing. But could still be a short happend in that area.

If (and only if) you have ever done it & you know what you're doing, you could take of the cooler & backplate and check for damage.
Otherwise just RMA it to XFX if you still got your receipt & it's still under warranty. Then you know for sure.

Yes I work on electronics (not full time but decent experience) I have all the tools necessary and no its not under RMA because of the damage to the edge. gonna check for shorts and see if voltage is going where it needs to be. easy enough
