That's not going to happen. Intel has already stated that 13th gen will use only DDR5. Expect to buy RAM and a new board with that CPU.

I am going next gen. Might as well at this point. Especially considering I have no build at the moment, might as well get a fresh mobo with longevity.

Ok, so they did change that. Previously 13th gen was supposed to be DDR5 only, just like Zen4.

I am excited about all of it.

I am not going to buy any of it; I'll let the other folks be beta testers for it. I am excited because what is current today will be in black Friday sales in Nov.

I expect to get a Ryzen 7 5700 for what I paid for a Ryzen 7 2700 ($140), an X570 board for less than $200, and a 2nd RTX 3060 for about $350. Two RTX 30 series cards will cut my render times by around 33%.

So pricing for AMD's new CPU's and Mobo's have finally become available here in Gougelandastan (NZ) and here is what they cost new vs old

7950X $1399 vs 5950X $1399 (same price)
7900X $1099 vs 5900X $999 (100 bucks more)
7700X $799 vs 5800X $799 (same price but I believe the 5800X price has increased as this is not what I paid for mine $676.00)
7600X $599 vs 5600X $549 (50 bucks more)
As you can see 2 of the 4 are the same price as previous CPU's and 2 have price rises from 50~100 bucks

A comparable X670e mobo to what I have Asus ROG Strix X670-E Gaming wifi $1199 vs ROG Strix X570-F Gaming $449 (2.6x the cost for AM5)

Corsair Vengence DDR5 6200MT 32GB (2x16GB) $599 vs GSkill DDR4 4000MT 16GB (2x8GB) $249 (2.4x the cost for DDR5)

so looks like I'll be looking at quite to price hike to upgrade Mobo and Ram but not the CPU

Yeah, but I ain't one for H20 cooling.
From the same place I listed, the Z790 boards are cheaper by over $130! (but eta not until late 21 Oct)
The i5-13700kf is about $15 more than R5 7600X, so overall the Intel platform is cheaper to get into, even more so if recycling DDR4 ram from older build. :)

I thought Z790 was going to be DDR5 only and only the Z690' supported both DDR4 & 5

From the same site I listed above, DDR4 & DDR5 capable Z790 boards are available but not before 21 Oct.
But personally, if I was going to go down the 1700 socket platform route, I'd get Z790 DDR5 capable boards only cause' I already have a 32GB set of DDR5 ready to go. :)
