In chapter 8 of Dead Space and half way through the campaign for COD MW and half way through Ghost Recon Break Point and a bit of Icarus when time permits.

Added Hogwarts legacy. So far its pretty slick.

Playing The Witcher 3 for the first time in months. Last time I tried to play it, my PC blackscreened upon talking to a bard. Now, after I swapped out my PSU, I was able to play for an hour and a half straight without a single crash, hope it stays that way for ever. It sure makes my GPU hot though.

Playing it also makes me crave for some cold cheap booze, for some reason.

Edit: I got jumpscared by an apparent blackscreen in game, turns out to be just a cutscene transition in the middle of the Novigrad streets.
That just reminded me of this screen I took during my first playthrough.
witcherdrunk.png

I did have some booze every now and then while playing this game that I will admit:oops:.

do you get any stuttering when you ride Roach through a small little village? or like cross a bridge? I always get stuttering, doesn't matter if I am on intel/nvidia or an all AMD system... really frustrating.

You stutter too? I thought I was the only one, since my XMP/DOCP is off (part of testing out my PC, leaving all hardware at stock settings).

Yeah, it is kinda stuttery. Runs at 75 fps almost everywhere though, at low settings and FSR at Quality. (I have a mere 75Hz monitor)

yeah, I do. it is frustrating. it doesn't stutter constantly, just as I mentioned certain areas. I have XMP, a stable OC on both cpu and gpu, all other games run buttery smooth. for some reason Witcher 3 is just not optimized I guess. not sure why people praise it so much, the stutters ruin my immersion.

Alright, I'm kind of excited to share this one with you guys, being an obsessed Souls fan and all:
Capture.PNG

I am currently playing the August 2011 prototype build of Dark Souls 1 for Xbox 360 that got leaked (released?) last year. I won't post links as I figure it'll violate the piracy/warez rule but I'm hoping the screenshot will pass muster.

Based on my previous experience (I have played a lot of different versions of the game now) the prototype appears to be the v1.0 US build of the game with the full debug menu still intact. The executable has a build number that is a few months before release and the in-game regulations (for Souls games, these are the "world rules" that determine penalties/rewards/stats etc) match my experience with the un-patched 1.0 build I have for PS3.

It is also incredibly unstable, I suspect possibly because the emulator is in a very early state. The most frequent crashes and freezes are caused by audio bugs and loops. Thankfully the emulator is quick to load so it doesn't take long to get back into it.

The debug menu is also incredibly fun to tinker with :) The majority of it is in Japanese so I'm working through it with Google Translate on my phone and the previous research done by others. A lot of options are beyond me but I've found some of the "cheats" plus some fun extras like teleportation, controlling NPCS and the Event Flag manipulator (which essentially lets you activate/deactivate an event, any event, provided you know the ID for it).

I am on the final stretch of the game now; I have Duke's Archives and Nito's domain to complete. Once I've completed the game, I intend to go digging around the "m_99" developer test maps to see if there's anything interesting to find.

Wish me luck!

I've finished the game like 1+ year ago or so since it was free on Steam at some point.
The theme is not for everyone 'requires a certain level of tolerance/understanding' for sure but it wasn't really bothering me and I ended up having fun with the story and trying to figure out the twists and whatnot till the end.

Also playing Hogwarts Legacy. Zero (micro) stutters, it plays absolutely fine, tbh.
Edit: The Preparing Shaders... every time you start the game is annoying though. :shadedshu:

And finally started a blue shift..

Seeing that you have a Life Is Strange Chloe profile pic (I've finished the game), I want to ask, how much does this game resemble LiS? Because this screenshot gave me some LiS vibes...

Haven't played much but at least the playability feels similar.

All of the games made by this company DONTNOD are very similar in design, just different stories, that is my understanding.

Finally reaching Leyndell. I have literally cleared just everything possible on the map under and above ground, on this side of Leyndell - most of what I have left is only accessible after beating Morgott. Like, every weapon, spell, talisman, what have you is mine. The only thing I haven't done is farm out armor sets. I'll do more of that when I can use things to tack-on lots of arcane/item discovery. You learn a fair bit about enemies by getting their pieces. There's usually one particular piece that says more. I find a lot of interesting lore in the armor drops.

Leyndell is so pretty. I think it's an easy favorite for a lot. It's a fascinating place.
eldenring 2023-02-12 01-20-25.jpg

I still think this set has pretty good drip. It seems fitting for this place, visually.

eldenring 2023-02-12 01-18-37.jpg

Finally got enough INT for the scepter. That thing is sweet lookin. Basically pushing for that 80 INT cap that it has so it can be at least in the ballpark of what the FP-eating Lusat staff has in damage. Even if it leaves me a bit low on vigor/mind by then. It's getting close to 300 sorcery scaling. Besides, I'm loaded up on all flasks and tears up to the snowfields. And with good damage efficiency, you don't need many casts. That's why I went with the 60 INT Carian scepter over the two 52 INT primeval staves - the added FP sink is too much with only 30 points in mind. Got talismans and the magic damage physick to further boost it and have a fair bit of damage on tap in spells, so that each bar counts for a lot more.

eldenring 2023-02-12 01-16-00.jpg
eldenring 2023-02-12 01-27-11.jpg

This whole setup leaves me with almost no natural physical negation of any kind, but the second tear in my physick is an opaline hardtear, which boosts it all up by 15%, putting it at normal levels for heavier armor when I fight hard hitting colossal enemies. Sometimes I switch it for the infinite mana one to let off a long-hold Azur kamehameha with lots of magic boost behind it, which is oddly satisfying. The slightly more FP-efficient glintstone cometshard can be used instead of full on comet (the biggest charging/repeating single glintstone shot) to deal with a lot of different enemies, when you have lots of damage and scaling to make each one count for a lot. A charged one can kill multiple enemies in one pass. Sometimes I toss out the slow spinning glintstone spell from finishing Sellen's quest to just lead in an approach with the Moonveil - once it connects, it slows them down for a good sec while stacking great damage for less FP, allowing you ample opportunity to get a finishing slash or two in with the MV in the other hand. But honestly, the amount of enemies that go down in one quick shot from the mere glintstone comet is almost too useful. If I ever want to, I can overwhelm a huge range of enemies with these spells - just never give them a chance.

One thing I gotta say, my mimic is a fkn monster with these spells and weapons

Generally, when I two-hand the Moonveil, I just take advantage of the boosted 600+ base to get it done by quickly and carefully placing the best hits I can - save on using the AOW by utilizing the big damage of it and the moveset at +9. On its own, it's a punishing weapon that can pick down stance pretty well, but you can only take advantage of that if you aren't getting hit in the first place, so defenses lag a bit. If I'm really hurting for defense, I can swap in a dragoncrest shield +1 talisman to get another 13% negation. Or just drop the jar arsenal charm on and armor-up. Better lightning defense could help here, but it can't be helped. Livers it is.

Personally, I think it's more fun to be sort of frail with a setup like this. If I'm actually getting nailed enough to matter, I'm not making use of the huge amounts of power it has. I'm not even making max use of it. There are better ways to configure a character in this class, so much more to take advantage of. But I haven't needed to just yet.

Most armor in Elden Ring has all the defensive capability of wet tissue paper to me anyway, having sufficient Vigor (like >=40) is far more important.

I tried playing Skyrim last midnight, could only manage to play for like 20 minutes before my PC blackscreened crashed & restarted on me. Again. At this point my PC is playing with me way more than I play on PC.

Also, what does Vigor do in Elden Ring?

Vigor is HP, with some slight defense & resistance values.

PSU swap allowed my PC to play games for like 3 days, before it blackscreened again. Only part left to swap is motherboard...

100%, lmao. Hence fashion souls, chillin' and slidin' into mid-late game. Elden bling.

You would be surprised though. With enemies that have a lot of mean physical damage, good negation can keep you in the fight a fair bit longer. Though in actuality, it's generally more important to have at least enough HP to tank past the one-shot line with hard-to-avoid attacks. Something that might otherwise drop you in two hits, might take three with high negation, giving you a chance to delay/skip a heal that you'd otherwise need to take asap to mitigate the one-shot outcome. Past 40, I think it's more about how you fight, what with, and skill level. Past that, negation becomes less important than say, having a fair stock of red flasks that fill enough of a bar to keep it together. But it has some strategic importance.

TBH, for the nastiest fights, I'd rather have about 60 vigor - that's where I was when I did a pure DEX run. I just don't care because running pure INT is punishing as hell when it comes to damage-dealing, and offers more in terms of damage prevention/avoidance with tactics. I really don't see a need to tank when you have spells AND powerful melee. I could probably be closer to 45. I'm used to jumping around in melee. This sorcery stuff is a lot more laid-back.

The real advantage of armor is in special mitigation, or especially immunity for the patented Miyazaki Poison Swamps. Lake of Rot is a nightmare without like 2 good immunity charms (say, upgraded immunizing horn + mottled necklace) along WITH very high immunity armor. If you want all of the items without using all of those precious rot bolluses, I don't know another way that's not build-specific. Of course, high base vigor is already required for the immunity that comes with that.

Vigor is HP, with some slight defense & resistance values.

PSU swap allowed my PC to play games for like 3 days, before it blackscreened again. Only part left to swap is motherboard...

I almost wonder if a UPS would help you... since it sounds like you have electricity problems.

Not quite an UPS, it's a mere auto voltage regulator, AVR. Blackscreen & restart still happened with swapped PSU and PC plugged into the AVR.

At this point, only part not ruled out is the motherboard, especially the PCIe GPU slot. Ordered a new motherboard today. For now, my PC is practically an overpowered office machine, that looks like it can play games, but then it faints and collapses at random when I do so. Hope the new mobo makes it a worthy gaming machine again.
