I am done already with the season's intentional PC purchases. Just bought a used pair of 4GB 1600MHz C9 GSkill DDR3 sticks to add another 8GB to my PC's RAM, as recently many of the latest games started pushing RAM usage more than in the past.

Going to put together another Ryzen 8 core crunching rig, possibly a Threadripper setup instead if prices/budget allow for it

Probably nothing for the holidays, but I did just upgrade my case, and back in August and September I upgraded my PSU and SSD, and I also upgraded someone else's system in September.

Since I have to choose one, all or nothing, I guess mine will clearly be storage.

I've already ordered 3 SSDs and 5 HDDs, and planning to get two more when these are up to sync.
But I guess the less fun part is that I will be running DBAN until after new year's on 10+ HDDs to be recycled…

Won't be for Xmas but planning a new rig for the new year.

Debating between Zen2 ATM or stick with Intel but definitely going to be a big rig. Already got a pair of Sapphire Nitro+ Vega64s and a new 1300w Seasonic. To go along with it I am thinking

- Asus Zenith Mobo
- 64 GB of Corsair Ram (3200mhz)
- Corsair 1000D case
- Two custom WC loops, 1x 480mm Rad for CPU and 1x 480mm Rad for Both GPUs both with push/pull fans
- new SSD's (2Tb Raid plus 500Gb OS)
- 8Tb HDD for media

And I think that's about it...

Since the Vega 64 is going for 400 USD now, I'm about ready to pull the trigger on that one. The only other thing that would be a nice is a new case. I'm still perfectly content with my 3930k and the platform.

Upgrading nothing this holiday season. I’ve got everything I need that will last me awhile.

I just got a car payment again after 3 years without one, so its a good thing I’m content with what I have:

I actually intend to work overtime whenever possible so I can rebuild my savings after some tough but necessary purchases... like car parts, and a fridge...

Yesterday the thought came to me to allow myself some frivolous purchases when the cost of the purchase doesn't exceed 10% of the savings. So, probably not in time for the "holidays" but eventually I want a new power supply. If I were doing it right now, it's a toss-up between this and this

The Seasonic is probably the better unit, but it's more expensive and the Raidmax got a decent enough review. The biggest hangup on that seems to be the relatively short warranty...

Nothing, prices for hardware are stupidly high here. I wanted a cheap 240GB SSD, but it will have to wait.

Got myself a WD Black 1TB NVMe SSD for the equivalent of $235 which seems to be a really good deal. That's $90 less than it was only about 2-3 months ago.
Didn't need it as such, but sometimes the upgrade itch is just too much...

just upgraded the gpu (hd6850 ) to rx580... was time as newer games didn't worked ... now next is the cpu ... i don't want to invest much so going to buy a vishera 8 core so i don't have to change mobo+ram ; i don't game on 2k or 4k so this rig is quite enough for me as all games run from ssd...

@W1zzard you mentioned update work rig; i know that many of reviewed hardware is sent back but those you had "on stock" you're not allowed to use for work?

... I see no reason to upgrade my rig... it's perfectly fine the way it is. My 3930k runs at 4.6GHz / 1.35v and at that speed it's more then fast enough for what I need to run. It's got 16GB of fast DDR3 (2133MHz CL 9-11-11-31), and my custom cooled 1080 can push 2K just fine. I did consider upgrading to Ryzen, but I don't feel the need, and am kind of curious about ryzen 2. Similarly, I posted an ad to trade my 1080 for a Vega64, since I've wanted to try one for a while - but so far no takers....

As for Christmas shopping... maybe a 512 SSD - if I find a good deal on one.

I ordered a 1TB Samsung 850 evo for $128+tax & a PSU for a relative. EVga has their G1+ 650W for $50 on amazon right now. I finally got the amazon card so I received $70 so that helped.
