I just want to know, but I do not know how to find this out myself via Google.

When I mean "equal", I mean by clocks, amount of ram etc.

Thanks Nesters, I shall look up a second hand card (hopefully a working one..), and if it is cheap enough, I shall buy it.

Reason is that I have never owned a modern ATi series card, except for the one built into the motherboard.

I suggest a 5770 if you plan on doing some gaming. it still does quite well!

Comparing clock speed and ram will not give you a correct indication. It's not linear, its architecture based, the horsepower of the GPU would be a more significiant factor than the GPU clock or memory clock. For example a 2GB 4850 would be significantly slower than a 512MB 6970, simply because the GPU is more powerful.

But to answer your question, the GTS 250 is near the 4850 4770, 5750 and 5770.

800sp/16rop AMD cards (HD 4870/4890/5770/6770) are comparable to a GTX 260 in most cases and are much better than a GTS 250.

Overall you have pretty good rig. The slowest ATI cards you should consider to make the upgrade worthwhile is the 5850, 6850 upwards. Anything slower isnt worth the upgrade or is too old.

Edit: Isnt the 7xxx series out in a few week?

2n hand

I did it once and landed a dummy, ended up letting the forum talk me into baking it. I then realised I was the dummy and next time I should spend the money elsewhere and bake myself.

Every video card I have recieved that was used has worked fine. My current 5850 was used for 3 months of gaming before I got it and it looked as new as it did when it was unboxed.

My friend still has my old 8800 Ultra that has been through 3 owners and it works like a champ, changed the paste to MX-2 and runs alot cooler

Considering the fact that you're looking for a cheap card and not even an upgrade then 2nd hand 4850 should be dirt cheap.
Cards worth upgrading to starts with 6850.
