Ok, now with a 4670... what brand does everyone prefer? and 512mb or 1gb?

I prefer Visiontek or Sapphire. But i would say get whatever brand u can get cheaper. There mostly the same specs. For VRAM it really depends on ur res. For lower res 512MB for higher res 1GB.

yea get a bigger res screen so his gpu can suck even more, did you read his first post, jesus. :slap:

id say get somthing in the region of the 8800gt, damn good performance for the price, better than the 4670 aswell will serve u very well on that 17" lcd, although dont expect to be putting much aa and af on somthing like crysis, even at 17" res :D

EDIT: and 512mb, is absolutely fine for 17" easily!!1, really 1gb is only for res above 1680x1050 lower than that and it is overkill and not needed

512mb would be overkill for 1280x1024. So 1GB would only help with a crazy OC plus voltmod with upgraded cooling at your resolution. All of which you will most likely not do.

I would say 4850 512mb since you will have that low resolution.

hmmm so you really think 4850's are going to drop by almost 50% by christmas, interesting

and gtx260 by 60%+ wow now that i would love to see :shadedshu

how is a voltmod and overclock going to use more than 512mb at 1280x1024 whereas at lower volts and clocks it wouldnt, that makes no sense what so ever

1gb is overkill for anything 256bit and lower.

and what ? you think the 4850 is going to drop to $100 by xmas, regardless of rv770, i can guarentee that wont happen. infact i tell you what if they do i will give you both of my 4850's straight up (legal note: this is just a rant on the tintanet and is by no means a binding contract, if these things do come about however unlikely, then the poster will have the option of eating his words rather than giving his 4850's away :D)

and not forgetting that is after rebate, damn i hate the price of hardware in the us, the 4850 hasnt dropped at all since its release and a new one will still set you back £115 ($180) we also dont have the luxury of having anything like mail in rebates, pisses me right off we pay over the odds for everything here and our currency is one of the best on the market :shadedshu

He also has a low psu. I highly doubt a 420w apevia will last long with one of these beasts.

17"??? 512MB is already overkill then. No need to waste another $30.

Higher sales=lower prices
Lower sales=higher prices
That's why I think the UK is different, but I could be wrong.......(could be your tax system)....(or they know you will pay)

When they sell over the limit of what took to make the card. "Very popular cards" then the price will start to drop.

Mail in rebates are the first signs of them dropping the price:)
Reason is that the people that bought the cards, around them have started to drop in price. To make up for that, they start doing mail in rebates(here at least)to counter act that. They do also do mail in rebates to help sales(IMO). Bottom line is that Nvidia, and AMD sets a lowest point for all the partners. So one does not drop the price hardcore for a year and kill all the other ones. They all go out and make their own deals to have their cards made so there is price differences( I would think) in what all companies are making when they sell them.

Ask Tatty_One and he will show you the extra performance in the benchmarks.

It makes since when you see the results.

I do not have time to explain all the details of it right now. ;)

bfg 650watt(ToPower unit) great deal I just got one last week, well worth the $ its HEAVY AS HELL, little heavyer then my fortron/fsp psu :)

as to gpu
4650/4670 at minumum
4830-4850 for higher end that will last you longer.

watch the prices, as DeMulta said prices will likely drop or sales will hit b4 christmas so you can get more for your money for GPU.

the PSU, grab b4 they change it back to 90bucks or run out :)

22a+22a ftw :pimp:

Guys he has a low quality 420w, a 9600GT and up will not run long on it. I had a crappy 550w die from using a damn 3850 on it. A 4670 would be fine for it but I would look into upgrading it for sure!

yeah I've already thought of a newer psu... so don't configure what's in the system now into recommendations. To clarify, what I'm looking for is something with DX10, something I can play games on with AA and AF with HDR or BLOOM and not have it crawl to a stop, or have a ton of artifacts.

You will need a HD 4830 at the least if you want to max everything with filters. You can try running a 4830, I don't think they need alot of power!

so at minumum a 4830 will allow me to run games at full without issues? Oblivion; FO3; MS Flight Sim X... etc. (not a farcry fan... but what about that game? I heard it takes a bear to get it to run in max settings)
