What cooler?!?

Ok so I've decided to upgrade finally! Should I grab a 5600+ since I hear they have even deviders that will make full use of ddr2-800, plus they use 2x 1MB cache to move from my 4600+? Also, should I move to the EPP/SLI Corsair thats 4-4-4-12 or should I stick with my Corsair 5-5-5-15 stuff? Also, I've decided to move from a single 320MB 8800GTS to a 768MB GTX Superclocked. Good move? So here are the 2 main questions.. move to sli memory and new cpu or no? what cooler should I get or should i keep my zalman cnps 9700? or water cooling...? if so which one? also should i get a new case? currently have antec 900..

yea i was leaning towards the ram and cpu anyways lol. what about a cooler? and a case? :\ I like my 900 but I love the Lian Li v2000's.. and I like the koolance system built into the v2000 on xoxide, but they're so overpriced! what do you guys think of the zalman reserator 1 ver 2? or the external koolance exos 2? or should i just keep my 900 with all 5 bajillion fans and my zalman for now?

I'd keep that case and the fans.. If you want a cooler CPU get a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme or something. Watercooling ain't worth it unless it's a high-end system IMO. But if you have the cash you can go for it. I have no idea what to get though..

If you have the technical know-how, then I recommend water cooling. My biggest worry before I got water cooling was not about liquid in my system as much as it was noise. Water pumps and radiator fans can be noisy. Surprisingly, the kit I got (yes, not all kits are terrible) was pretty silent and performed great.

Otherwise I recommend this copper monster:

Can't argue with a 6000RPM fan and nearly 2 lbs of copper under it.

That thermaltake cooler is a rocket, and likes to eat fingers.

For a good water kit check out the swiftech apex kits. SLI memory is a waste, if you really want new ram get some ballistix 1066 2gb. For cpu's check out the amd black editions, most overclock to 3.5 or more. As for cases I'm waiting on my gigabyte 3daroura to come in, dual 120mm's in the back, 120mm in the front, mess/plexi window, lots of space.

I reallly like the thermalrights, but they are never available on newegg. lol I like diesel heatsink and fans just cause the look cool and cool even better. never used a thermaltake cooler though... how are they? and i dont mind the size.. i would love to go water, but don't know what system to get..

well i ordered $1100 in new parts this morning.. lol.. ASUS Crosshair, X2 5600+, 2GB corsair twinx2048-6400c4 4-4-4-12 sli, evga 8800gtx superclocked, SENNHEISER PC151 headset, g5 laser mouse, since mine has shit the bed quite literally. now i just need to decide on a cooler, thats if i dont keep the cnps 9700? what do you guys think? also i'm looking at a lian li v1200 case, and would like to get a WC kit for it.. maybe in a month or so

I've used plenty of Thermaltake coolers over the years. Both their budget/value offerings as well as their top of the line monsters. (Volcano 11+, Volcano 12, Venus 12, etc). I was never disappointed. Venus 12 is truly a monster. I have 2 of them, one in my secondary machine and one in my closet (it was in my primary system until it was replaced by a water cooling setup).

As for water kits, it depends on you technical know-how. I mean, would you be comfortable with setting up water cooling, and/or do you have any previous experience? Also, it depends on your budget.

technical knowhow is preatty high. lol i used to bmx, so used to build my own bikes and work on them, i build my own system, have been doing so for almost 7 years.. i never used WC before, but I'm the kid that buys a 3500piece lego set and puts it together without the instruction booklet.. so i think i can nail a few hoses and clamps. lol budget... i don't purchase things, i charge them with no payments/ interest for 6 months then pay as i go. lol builds my credit, and saves me the cash out of pocket at the moment. gotta love newegg and their $2000 credit line. lol

Well, most people would recommend that you put together a fully customized water setup and stay away from kits. I'm not most people. Any gains and/or benefits would be minimal, if any, over a decent standard all-in-one kit. I would recommend you take a look at various $150+ kits on newegg. Most of them would give you decent performance and are pretty easy to set up. I use a relatively affordable WC-202 kit from Evercool (which is pretty expandable if you are thinking of adding more blocks), but I've had some 2nd hand experience with Thermaltake and Titan water cooling kits, and I would recommend them as well.

As for that MAX ORB, I don't know. It can push a lot of air, but I'm not impressed with the aluminum+copper base. I prefer all copper designs.

yea i think i'll stay away from water right now.. maybe i'll grab one of those ocz phase change systems when they release and drop price a little. as for the time being what do you think? should i stick with my cnps 9700 or get something "better"?

Sound like a plan. As for your HS/fan, it depends on if you are going to do any overclocking. It looks decent, although I couldn’t find any specs on how much air it pushes. Maybe a little bit loud on "normal setting" (35dB?) but other than that it looks okay.

I do OC.. I have my current 4600+ from 2.4 to 3.0Ghz on the Zalman 9700 and running a 29 degrees celcius on idle @ 1.5V... not too shabby eh? lol. I also didn't use the fan controller, I plugged it into the board.. So it's more accurate at what it needs for cooling. I'm just not sure if there is a "better" choice to go with in pair with my new Crosshair board..?

yea i noticed... i kinda like that design though.. but the heatpipes on the crosshair wouldn't work correctly being upside down? i never thought it mattered..? :\

I'm kinda deadlocked between a lian li v1200 and the cooler master rc 690 and the cooler master cosmos...

Unless you want to go with water, I'd say stay with the Zalman...or I have a really nice lapped AC Freezer pro I'm selling...
