What current 775 processor will deliver a noticable increase over a 3 GHZ Pentium? Im not sure if its a Pentium D but ill check and let you know, but is a E7200 a good up?

I had a P4 with 3.6GHz stock, and my low-end E6300 Dual Core (1.86GH stock, oc'ed to 2.52GHz atm) outperforms it in every aspect. An E7200 is a good choice. Almost any Dual Core is. But as far as I heard, the 7xxx and 8xxx are on top.

What's your budget? What can your mobo take? You'll feel an increase with pretty much any modern Dual Core CPU.

Mobo can take 45 nm procs ... it think the proc here now has One core and HT

e7200 is a good choice on a budget--- E8400 / q6600 can be had in the same ballpark depending on whether you'd rather have a dual or a quad.

then go e7200....even the e5200 if minimum is the rule. Both will give good bumps and are highly OCable.

e5200 is a good option. It's running fast and cool in my back up rig at 3.8ghz. I paid $70 for it.

e7300 and e7200a re the same price on Newegg, scoop that for the pentium replacement ... might get a e5200 for myself

I had a celeron d 352 at 4.7ghz and my e2160 outperformed it at stock so get a core based cpu if your on a budget.

If budget is an issue, go witht he E5200. Though even the very low end dual cores will outperform a Pentium 4. Even a Celeron Dual core would probably outperform a Pentium 4 actually.

Either go for an E7200 if your budget is ok, E2180 if its tight. You'll notice an amazing increase in performance with either!
