What happened to the driver rewrite ?

Some of us remember there was supposed to be a driver rewrite in relations to memory handling.

All I see mentioned now is a freaking crossfire update mentioned, so whats going on here...

anyone want to ask the driver guy on twitter or something whats the status on that?

This has already been bought up not long ago. Chances are AMD wanted to get the drivers as bug free and stable as possible before pulling around memory handling, it makes sense to want to have a stable base before messing with something like memory handling that way if something goes wrong you know much better what the probable cause is. My guess would be you'll see finalised drivers (read: not beta) with the memory improvements over the next 2-4 months, if you look at what beta drivers have been doing lately there hasn't been too much in terms of improvements or fixes so I'd say currently loose ends are being tied up in the drivers before the memory management work starts.

The memory management rewrites are for GCN architecture, so HD7k series only will benefit AFAIK.
