What is better?

Slower cpu single core with better graphic card

OR

Higher cpu single core with lower graphic card



Generally speaking only and I will not write down any specs or this thread could be polluted by some trigger freaks who are too quick to give advices on buyings parts and not answering the main question.

Who uses a single core CPU these days?

Too slow of a CPU will bottlenecks fast gpu, and a slow gpu would be wasted on a beast CPU. Gotta find the right balance

All depends what your using the computer for?

If your doing some light gaming and browsing the web id go with the first option.

If your not going to game at all then go with the second option.

These days even just watching youtube on a single core system can lag, all depends on the speed of the CPU realy.

I think we need a little more info on what speed the CPU is going to be more then anything to realy give you a clear cut answer

single cpu is more important because it's useful not only in games
but if u comparing almost same cpus only differ by frequency and not locked like intel's budgetary ones better select a bit slower cpu
increased fsb/bclock speed gain more performance then just cpu frequency

What? Hes not asking about single or multiple CPUs. Single Core CPUs.

And like everyone is saying, it depends on what your system is used for, but regardless I would be very surprised if someone bought a 1 core CPU these days.

Its all about balancing out the system, and having the right system for the tasks.

Well right now Newegg has only one single core chip listed AMD Sempron 145 Sargas 2.8GHz and its $38.99 The cheapest dual core AMD A4-3300 Llano 2.5GHz is $39.99 so honestly its a mute discussion. My point is you can purchase more power (dual core) for the same money.

Unless you own both and are trying to determine best combo.

But again, it really depends ENTIRELY on what you're doind. Not any games at all? CPU all the way. WoW? Harder to say. BF2? GPU probably. Needs moar info!

If you have that many parts, maybe you should inventory them so next time you go to put components together you don't have to sort through stuff to find out what you have handy. Either way, there is no such thing as too much to list unless there are few enough of it where a list isn't required, in which case it wouldn't be a lot of parts.

This is me speaking as a system admin though. I inventory everything.

I still have 2 machines that are single core but i don't use them often (only for back ups realy). Both run Windows XP and they run pretty quick. One has a FX-57 and the other is a XP 2100+ both do the job fine. I would say watching a 1080P video off youtube with the 2100+ would start to lag though.

I think that the less worse option is the second scenario. In the first option you're effectively capping your GPU, basically throwing away money by paying for capacity you're not able to use. Having a beefy CPU with a weak GPU could be meant for photo/video editing and what not (OpenCL acceleration, etc.) but the first option has zero practical uses IMO.

If you have all the hardware you can simply test it yourself in the scenarios you wish to test in.
