if you look at this pic of my vista task bar,there is a yellow triangle warning sign that keeps appearing.does anyone have any idea what it is/caused by??

In my old Windows XP SP1 pc that same image appears when downloading updates from Microsoft. But I could be wrong :eek:

In XP if you right click the toolbar and click properties, goto the "taskbar tab" and check the "hide inactive icons" button, you can then click "customise" and it allows you to choose which icons you want to hide/show.

In XP it gives a little bit of info what each one does.
Heres a screenie in case your confused.

Maybe that can shed a bit of light on what it is. IF Vista allows you to do it that is...

i believe it's the anti-phishing guard alert telling you it's blocking spam thats trying to download.

the downloading update indicator is a yellow shield not a triangle.

I have seen that before. Usually means for me either:

A: No internet
B: Critical windows error occurred recently

What about Start>Run>eventvwr.msc ?
That shows you events that occur on the compy. Scroll through the "System" list to the time when you noticed that icon and look for "warning" and "error" events.

Event viewer will list it yes. Random guess: NTFS problem, could be hardware (disk, network) related.

I had a virus that did that to me back in XP (well not me, but a computer i was fixing)

Although, i think it had error messages too.
