What is your HD4870 OC ?

I just installed this card, enabled overdrive, put the sliders to max at 790/1100 and let it test the settings. Overdrive passed the settings. So I played FC2, and Warhead after that for an hour at those clocks. Everything worked fine.

I'm wondering if everyone gets that OC.

The card is a Visiontek HD4870 with the stock AMD cooler. I didn't even turn up the fan, the GPU was toasting at 83C with the OC .

I can run mine at 845/1100 and play games for hours. Never had a problem with it.

Just installed my new Sapphire 4870, with the non reference cooler. So far, stable at 826/1100. I gotta say the cooler does a great job. It never breaks 60c.

Mine is stable at 830/1000, gpu temps at 60 - 65C range, mem temps (MEMIO) at 65C - 70C.
the fan is spinning at 45%.

what do you guys know about that running this GDDR5 chips at high speeds 1000MHz+ can kill the card very fast.. thats a myth?

I can get 790/1100 for about an hour and then it start to artifact and I get green lines on my screen. I drop the ram speed to 1000 and then all is good again. I have a reference design so maybe that is why it does that, I figure the cooler is the cheapest it can be without totally compromising the board. I guess you need a RBE to get 845/1100... I wonder what the benchmarks are for a card pushed that fast. I'd like to see if anyone can get the 4870X2 up to that speed. 또봐

800/1050, can't get any higher with CCC. I only got my fan on 53%. I use to run my old Asus TOP 4850 fan at 100% and that didn't bother me. But you guys want a jet the 4870x2 fan at 100% sounds like it the fan came off it would shear my computer in half!

842/1125 is the fastest I've gotten so far. I'm afraid to take my memory any higher. i'm very pleased with this card so far. idle temps are 39C and I havent seen it go over 70 under full load.

I keep my fan settings @ 70% (low enough to where I cant hear them over my case fans)- i've been very impressed with the stock cooler/fan on this card. It's not reference design, I'll try to find a picture of it.

Interesting....I have an ASUS 4870 512mb with the standard reference cooler that has worked well to this point at stock speeds of 750/900....I just tried a little bit of tweaking, bumping it up to 775/1005 and temps at idle are running at approx 44c with the fan speed at about 41%....I'm using the ASUS Smart Dr. fan control smart cooling feature that allows me to pre-set temp boundaries at slow, medium, fast and fastest when load increases. It seems to work very well, but not sure if it's better to just use the fan speed control on the CCC. Either way, I would like to creep the speeds up a little bit more and still keep my temps in check without have to run the fan speed at or near max. When I test it using the custom clock feature at the current speed, it gives it a passing score, so I guess i'll just have to play a bit with it to get a good balance. Don't want to push it to high and damage the card.

I underclock mine to 500/500 when not in use.

For more serious gaming, i'll put it at 775/950.

I havent noticed much, if any, improvements in benchmarks between 1100 and 1125. honestly I'm not sure if 1100 is needed. the important thing is the core clock..

@ diesel, these cards can handle quite a bit of temperature (I think) - at least, my 4850 would regularly get over 100C and it hasnt been damaged. so unless you are overvolting the thing then I doubt you will do any damage to your card. I'm not an expert on the subject by any means, but it makes sense. a card will usually crash the pc if it gets close to an unstable/damaging clock speed.

I heard a rumor that pushing the GDDR5 past 1100 will degrade the memory, but never have I seen any evidence to support this.

Thxxxx.....My temps are far below what your 4850 was showing. Even though these speeds aren't much higher than the stock settings, I guess I'll just leave it at 775/1005 for awhile and see how it runs...it's been good so far.
