Yes, but at what price? ;)

With the 480 costing as much as 500€, a 480x2 would probably go for premium 1k or 1.2k price range and for that we could get a TOXIC 5970 4GB.
Not many people would buy that anyways...

I fail to see the point of a 480x2, except for bragging rights...or some kick ass CAD modeling projects.
Probably 1k. The Toxic 5970 is a rip-off, its slightly OC'd than the 4GB 5970 and more over-priced. And yet again i mentioned, "5970 killer". :p Would love to see some reviews and you never know when they will release a game like Crysis that can't be played on max settings till the GTX 6/ ATi 7xxx series comes out. lol

Fudzilla explains the roadmap of nvidia and i was wrong about GTS 450 because the name seems to be GTS 455. Anyway, what amuses me is the fact that you don't know about the GTS 455 which is a real fact and you know about imaginatives GTX 485...
In a forum here i have seen the GTX 495 which is totally FAKE. This is the fact and all should learn not to listen to rumours (like a friend of mine who said me the new 9900GTX), but only facts! So all those other things are false
http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/graphics/graphics/fourth-gf104-based-graphics-card-possible
One more thing is: GTX 475 is not a dual chip as i saw in another thread, but it is GF104 fully enabled
Hope this interests you all!

I quote the Fudzilla article:

"The GTS 455 for now sounds like a "fourth card" that will be launched with GF104 as you have two versions of GTX 460 cards, a possible GTX 475 with full GF104 chip and the rumoured GTS 455."

Words to mention... sounds like, possible and rumoured.

Nuff said really.

I have no doubt there will be a dual GF104 card. I'm just saying take Fudzilla with a grain of salt. ;) GTX 485 doesn't make sense right now. With the GF104 there are 48 more shaders to add. Add those plus possibly a larger memory bus and performance will come between a 470 and 480 with most likely better power characteristics. If there will be a 485, it's a GPU no one has seen yet. :)

Ok than i have to reply to this Nvidia GTX 485 he is talking about:

translation makes zero sense, too hard to understand

dual gf104 makes sense, the gtx 485 is making less and less sense as form what I've seen it's going to offer a marginal boost for a larger power draw, heat output, and cost. All to still be bested by the 5970 by a decent margin.

a dual gf 104 on the other hand makes more sense, especially if a full shadered version could compete with the 5970

No larger memory bus erocker, not on this one at least. Unless all the info and diagrams around the net are completely wrong. GF104 is a 256bit part. Seeing the small difference between 192bit and 256bit 460s I don't think more than 256 bit is required anyway. Higher memory clock will just make it.

Regarding the 485, it is very very very very (did I say very?) unlikely, but it could be based on some kind of GF100 respin. Yeah many people have said it would make little sense, but that was before they've seen that the architecture actually works like expected. Goig for a respin when you don't know if it will make a difference is just a very risky and expensive move, but now it makes all the sense. GF104 is a fixed Fermi, they would just need to kinda add the 50% they just cut for GF104 back.

Or another alternative would be to use exactly the same architecture found in GF104 but with 3 clusters instead of two and go back to 384 bit. That way they would be again into the 3 billion transistor realms since you are adding exactly 50%, GF104 has 1950 million transistors + half of that = almost 3 billion (versus 3.1 billion in GF100). Biggest differences:

- Based on an architecture that actually works like expected.
- Maybe higher clocks possible. Like 750Mhz for the high end SKU and 650 for the harvested one.
- Good power consumption. Add 50% to the 150w the GTX460 consumes give or take.
- 384 + 192 = 576 SPs :rockout: And 96 TMUs. (50% more than GF100, biggest flaw IMO)

If there will be a 485, it's a GPU no one has seen yet. :)

It wouldn't be so strange for such a chip to exist without our knowledge. Think about this: who is the person that most talks (knows?) about future releases? C.Demerjian. Now, how much have we heard about GTx460 from him, appart from this? After that he went completely mute, probably because he actually got some true info and was not what he wanted to hear. In the linked article dated 1 month ago, he knew jack and off whatever truth he actually knew, he would never say. So if Nvidia was making something in the lines of what I described above, do you think we would ever hear about it? Other typical sources with early Nvidia info are usually close to Nvidia and biased a bit, it might be in Nvidia's interest to hyde such a chip if it actually exists, so they would not announce anything yet.

Nice tech spec from Hexus.

"The GF104 layout shows that GTX 460 is optimally composed of eight SMs, amounting to some 384 CUDA cores (48 x 8). In the interests of protecting the GF100 cards from mid-range GF104 attack and with a nod to the vagaries of silicon production and yields, NVIDIA deactivates one SM on the GTX 460s. We may well see it activated in the future as yields improved, however.

Equipped with seven SMs, then, the mid-range GeForce GTX 460 has 336 cores, just shy of the GeForce GTX 465's 352. However, the doubling of texturing capability means that the new GPU possesses 56 texture-units, compared to 44 for GTX 465. On the downside, there are now fewer PolyMorph and raster engines to handle all that tessellation. It's a give-and-take setup when judged next to the cheapest GF100 card
."

By disabling the 8th steaming multiprocessor (SM) they have left room for improvement but they have also diminished the polymorph and raster engines. A full fat GF 104 still lacks the tesselation power of a GF100 so they'd have to put them back in and that would be a different architecture.
I think 384 core GF 104 is as good as it will get for a single card. With that in mind it might not quite be as good as a GTX 470?

No. It has less tesselation because it only has 2 TPCs (clusters) instead of 4 in GTX480/70/65 and each TPC has just 1 Polymorph engine. But by looking at Unigine Extreme tesselation benchmarks it's obvious that GF100 was overkill on that front. Even with just 2 Polymorph engines the 460 destroys every single Ati card and it's not too far from the 465 which has 4.

You mean that the trade off made in GF104 is for the better or you are pointing out the fact that GF100 cards do win the benchmark, so maybe it was not so overkill. It can work both ways and I could agree with both.
