Random thread is random...

See system link for details.

How does that aggregate the results in graphed survey?

I should be acquiring an old oscilloscope soon so I'll hook that up and see if caps are needed. They aren't used on the standard cables that I can see, and they'll be less beneficial with decent gauge cable than with thin cable but might still help. Good thought. :)

Pretty sure the G2's hide some thin CapXon electrolytic caps on the lines somewhere.

It doesn't... what does that aggregation tell anyone? Who is using what...I just hope a buying decision isn't made like this. ;)

I also can't vote more than once for my two systems... random is random. :p

My first poll , sorry for the poor setup , wasn't sure of all the possible variables that could be implemented.

Possibly, the caps would be at the load side of the cable and I can't see any bulges under the heatshrink or sleeving, I guess they're not normally big caps so they might be hiding in there. Will investigate properly before making new ones :)

Corsair, EVGA and Seasonic are on top, who'da thunk? Haha.

I'm personally stuck with my trusty XFX Core Edtion Pro 650W that's almost 3 years old now. No signs of stopping me from gaming at any time.

One thing about it that I don't like is that it's not at least semi-modular. But that's it, it's good and quiet. So many cables tho, but good length of them.

Bought one because a cheap PSU included in the case was making Crysis 1 shut down PC during the opening scene. Good times.

Don't remember which "tier" it falls in to. (Edit: Tier 1 oh snap! I did remember paying a lot for it though) I did want the "best" after the crap a bad PSU pulled off.

Brand is less important when you instead have to consider who actually made the unit. I remember finding a list of branded PSU's and who made them. the quality was denoted by colour if I recall correctly. Of course there is that PCMR reddit post that's easier to understand if you have to make a twitch speed purchase.

I own that one too , great power supply.

I never even had to think about it since the day I installed it. Should last me at least a decade :)

Normally they use them when you are on the edge of stability with a platform. Here is the review of the old school antec TPQ-1200. This is the very top of that enhance platform.

Thanks for the link, that was an interesting read. There'll be hardly any vdroop or fluctuation under load with decent cables, that's why cablemod and similar don't bother with caps. I'll go for the heaviest gauge wire that the connectors are spec'd for, good quality connectors and individually sleeve the cables. Should be good :) I need to figure out what colour sleeving to use, hmmmmm. I won't be doing this for a while but I'll post some pics when they're done. ;)

In an ideal world you'd want the cap after the connector since you also get a bit of resistance and hence vdroop there. Soldering the caps directly to the graphics card would be the ultimate solution. I guess it's totally unnecessarily unless you're overclocking competetively and using LN2.

On that particular unit I think they had just reached the maximum the enhance based platform could provide. This was a band aid of sorts, the cables aren't of poor quality from the get go.

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 (the red model) since 2006. Ran some heavy folding on it (CPU and GPUs) for a few years and still in the main rig.

Those things are solid! I used to have a silencer 750 when I was younger, wish I didn't sell it. I seem to remember that at the time not a lot compared to them, most PSU's had 2x or more 12V rails to get the same amperage and were less reliable.

I've got the EVGA 850 G2 at the moment, seems like a very good bit of kit. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the cables, I think they're a bit under-sized. I'm using 2 cables to each card and they still get pretty warm when working the gpu's hard. I've got some crimpers so I'll probably make up some nice cablemod style cables using decent guage wire at some point.

Missed the important part out, rebadged Seasonic unit.

My PSUs:

XFX Core Edition 550W: old Seasonic S12II
EVGA G2 750W: SF Leadex
Silverstone ST45SF-G: some Enhance shit that can't handle 220V properly
Corsair SF600: some Great Wall platform

Gotta get my hands on an SS XP3 or PRIME unit someday. One can never have too much Seasonic in one's life.
