+1

Driver manager software is also just plain unnecessary when you can just find the appropriate driver yourself anyway.

Straight from who made them. No one needs bloatware and if you can't properly install drivers yourself then there is an issue somewhere.

The problem with Driver-Booster and other 3rd party programs is they recommend or even just install new drivers just because a new driver is out there. Unlike other programs, drivers don't necessarily need to be updated just because a new one is out there. If your hardware is working fine, don't fix it. I mean if your network card has been working fine for 3 years, does it really need updating?

Most drivers these days are driver bundles - that is, one bundle addresses a bunch of different models from that maker. Chances are, all the new driver does is add support for another piece of hardware - hardware you don't have. This is very true with chipset drivers - most updates add support for a new CPU or new RAM that came out after the chipset left the factory. If you don't have, or are not planning to buy that new CPU, why install the new driver?

I don't install new drivers unless the readme file says it addresses a problem I am having, fixes a security issue (which is rare), or because my existing driver is corrupt (also rare). Same with BIOS updates.

The only exception might be a graphics card driver as they often add new features and protocols or specific tweaks for specific games. But both AMD and NVIDIA are great for notifying users of new updates.

And even in case of them it's always better to wait at least half week for others to beta... err alpha test those drivers.
Especially Nvidia has had some seriously bad driver releases at worst burning cards because of buggy fan speed control.

None of these are legit. If you absolutely must use SDI origin otherwise go to the manufacturer

At my technology internship years ago, we used a driver utility (don't remember the name)... Until we found out it was chock full of "extra" stuff. I chalk it up to me being naive at the time. Just bite the bullet and find them manually. In an enterprise setting it seems Windows 10 is also really much better at finding most of the drivers on its own than older Windows OS'.

Windows also has driver updating built in program so don't need 3rd party app to do this task.
And also Microsoft and Wintoys 10 belongs to those untrusty driver update sources.
WinToys, if you mean this, does not have a driver update feature. And Microsoft does it entirely different than other driver programs. Microsoft only manages Microsoft branded hardware (keyboards, mice, Surface, etc.) For other hardware and drivers, the hardware maker submits the drivers to Microsoft and then and only then does Microsoft push them out. That puts the onus on the driver makers to ensure the correct drivers are distributed with Windows Update - if that option is enabled. So IMO, if you decide to use a 3rd party driver updater, the one is Windows is the only one you can trust because the drivers are there only because the hardware makers submitted them to be distributed that way.

Microsoft does it this way because they don't want to waste resources managing the program - especially one they collect no returns (income) from those investments.

The other driver update programs manage their own databases of drivers and use ads, add-ons and "extra stuff" we don't need, and other sources of revenue.

From my knowing Driver Booster sets a restore point before it installs drivers. Also I have used it on plenty of computers and none have failed me. Just Driver Booster makes it easier for those and me... To not have to travel to the manufacturer website for its Drivers
