electronics are not ideal, i would not recommend a 470w pp&c because he does have power hungry components and while they might run on that psu, overclocking will demand more wattage. on top of that, caps will degrade over time, reducing the capcity of the psu, and then the psu might not be able to supply the system. and plus the psu will run hotter because more of its capacity is being used, and a psu's wattage capacity is also influenced by the temperature. the cooler a psu runs, the more wattage it will be able to supply. for example, pp&c's 610w will be able to supply a continous 610w at a temperature of 40C, a higher temperature will cause the psu to be able to supply slightly less(this depends on the temp) then 610w, and a lower temp will allow the psu to supply slightly higher wattage. so 470w, i would not recommend for him, but maybe for others

Do NOT recommend your "guide" to anyone, and do NOT recommend any piece of hardware to anyone, please.
I would go with PCP&C Silencer 610w, but your system would be fine even with 470w Silencer.

how oxymoronic, you ask me not to recommend a piece of hardware, and then you recommend one yourself?

HEHE. Well my old PSU was a 600w and fails all the time with 2900XT clocks i just hope in around six month or so it's as good as my old CoolMax PSU as for all the times the PC shut down it NEVER gave up trying and did no harm to the comp...

Well I didn't know that their were so many chocies, but this is what I'm look at, It has an $80 discount:D

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703009

But ima look into those other versions first.:p

Not had mine long enough to say much but i have maxed my system out and the +12v rail is SOLID as hell. I get 11.93v in BIOS and 11.43 according to speedfan but it bearly changes if it does.

Here's what i see from speedfan after upto 2 hours allways the same.

+3.3V 3.28 to 3.296, +5V 4.973 to 5.0, +12V 11.43 to 11.491. - voltages don't change and the -5v is allways 4v and the -12v is 7v.

Mine is the Crossfire Edition which the price has just gone back up :(. BUT i am sure you can get 6 to 8 PCI e connectors if ever needed anyways.

So far i'm really happy with mine. One thing i did think was odd was the outlet for all the cables. To have the cables on the same side of the mobo tray you would have to mount the PSU upside down.

12v is a little lower then what i'd like to see, but you're safe for now... you want to keep the leads +- 5% from the actual number.-5% of 12v would be 11.4 so yeah.. i can see why your psu gives up when you try to clock up the 2900xt. for ex. my 12v lead is 11.98 in the bios. and it stays at a solid 11.97 in windows, and i know i can throw a lot at it because im very near to 12, whereas you're on the verge of running out of 12v power

5% is well within specs...most PSU lose more than that under load. :toast:

You talking to me ?.. I have 0 issues with this PSU. My Coolmax used to drop like hell and as low as 10v ^^.. This one don't change not even at full load.

EDIT this is speedfan readings so probaly some what differant than real reading that you would get from watt meter.

yes, i'm talking to you, you're still fine, and the rail is SOLID, but dont expect on upgrading to hungrier stuff with that psu, it might not work =/

Don't agree...that PSU has plenty of power. Nowadays component manufactures are trying to go green..so power needs will most likly go down not up so much.

interesting price on the 750 from newegg.....

does anyone else think they are telling porkies with the original list price of $249 ?.....

https://shop.pcpower.com/power-supply/silencer-750-quad-black.html

egg is bluffing, just shopzilla'd pc power & cooling 750w and this is what it throws me:

the red ones are silencer quad crossfire edition, the black ones are regular silencer quads

hey, doesn't pp&c also give you a test report for the psu that you bought? like they actually test your psu in their labs and send you a report with the psu?

hey, doesn't pp&c also give you a test report for the psu that you bought? like they actually test your psu in their labs and send you a report with the psu?

Yeah if you pay for it.

the report comes free with the 1kw psu's i think, and for the rest you might have to pay for the report to get shipped over and stuff. but just goes to show how pp&c actually goes through the trouble of testing the psu before shipping it out, unless most companies.. and they are so confident in the psus that they give you a 5-7 year warranty
