Please post your resolution/refresh rate/GPU too

I use a 1080Ti on a 1440p/165hz monitor,I usually start with Ultra preset and then drop a few settings to very high/high if I'm not reaching my desired framerate

It varies from game to game and from platform to platform. You should put way more options in that pool.
Short answer. The highest settings i can run the game at that gets > 30fps for singleplayer/co-op and the lowest to get >60fps in multiplayer competitive games.

R9 290X 1080p 30-144Hz freesync monitor. I keep fps over 60 with mix of settings that look nice. Not a sucker for ultra, but if I'm getting over 100fps I up the settings.

RTX 2080Ti, 3440X1440, 100Hz G Sync. Haven't found anything that can't be run at ultra yet, BF:V at launch being the exception. But that game sucks so bad I'm not counting it lol.

4k and I play almost everything at Ultra at that resolution. Mind you, I'm not typically playing graphic intensive games that are also fast paced and I'm playing games in Linux which is a little different than in Windows. The fastest paced games I play are probably going to be DOOM, DiRT: Rally, and Rocket League all of which run great a 4k without even having to overclock. The only exception to this is Deus Ex: Mankind Divided which I run at 1080p because it runs terrible at 4k, even with graphics toned down.

With that said, I feel like a lot of my most favorite games these days are also not the most graphically intense so, I might be able to get away with this more than someone playing the latest titles.

Well I have a R9 280x on a 60Hz monitor. The settings depend in the game, but since I play older games I run them mostly on high.

Just moved over to 1440p / 144/165hz panel so a mix of ultra and high for me. Depends on games that I play too, mostly Monster Hunter and Overwatch with a bit of Killing Floor 2.

We just had a thread like this....@lexluthermeister started it: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...ings-for-running-games-and-benchmarks.250063/

He was surprised so many people used or strived for ultra...

....as I said in that thread, part of the point of pc gaming is its general superior IQ over a console. Those that use less than ultra either dont have the GPU to support it at their frame rates or chasing 144 fps/hz. Otherwise it should be set to ultra and displayed as the devs intended. This is part of the reason why the majority of reviewers PROPERLY test with default ultra settings.

Whatever gives decent enough image quality with playable FPS, which is over 30, or fixed 60, depending on the game.

Depends on the game but usually high to ultra with FPS at 40fps+ at 1080p. Last game I played was mankind divided and I had no issues with the game at the highest setting.

High/Ultra...pretty much as high as I can get with my 980Ti with what I perceive as smooth framerates for gameplay. So far Ashes is about the only game I play that goes sub-60FPS at Ultra settings.

My kids PCs are the same for them...high/ultra on all their games.

He was surprised so many people used or strived for ultra...
pc graphic have been stagnant while gpus have been faster and faster each generation

when witcher 3 came out the fastest gpus were GM200 980ti and Titan X Maxwell, and they were the only ones to do 1440p Ultra, and even those couldn't maintain 60 fps at all times.
since then we had 1070 match Titan X Maxwell, 1080Ti almost match 980Ti SLI,1070/V56 bringing gtx 1080-like performance to $400 and now the rtx series while games have not become much more demanding than witcher 3 was back in 2015.

thanks cucker tarlson, that nice of you to say so. heres a better pic

Using the system in my signature and play with everything maxed out / ultra. Get very respectable FPS because I am using a 720p monitor and running at 1280x720 ... or 1280x800, if the game supports it, since it's basically a Panasonic 43" 16:10 monitor.

My 4gb rx 580 does most games on high to very high at 1080p/60, which suits me well enough. Even on modern titles like sottr it generally keeps up. I go as high as I can while still holding 60. Will never compromise on steady frame rate. Nothing worse than FR dips with vsync. With a 32" display I greatly appreciate AA, so Ill usually compromise on shadows and distance detail. Very rare that I need to, but generally I will always cut visuals in order to max FR. To me frame drops/skips are much more immersion breaking than subpar visuals.

In fact I think the only times Ive had to yet have been Skyrim and FO4. One, poor optimisation makes it more expenseive than it should be for it to look 5% less crappy and dated. Two, I run triple digit mods. So Ill gladly run just over potato settings. Still looks better than vanilla with settings cranked.

That said, if I had my way Id get a nicer gpu and a high refresh 1080p display and eliminate the compromise. High frame rate at a reasonable res with high settings is where Id like to be.

Depending on the game I usually go to ultra or high then adjust settings for my RX 480 to run @ 60fps
