I know alot of people have switched from Intel to AMD since AMD ZEN.
Curious how many TPU users are rocking AMD or Intel in 2022 (maybe both if you have more than one system).

Note: This is not a thread to argue about who you think is "better" or anything like that.

Intel/Intel/AMD ~ looking to switch to Intel/AMD/AMD later this year. Have a couple of laptops with Intel Inside®, probably at least 1 will be gone by the end of the year!

IMO AMD dropped the ball with prices, became non-buyable products for people, who like to get some value out of CPUs. It's never so simple as "a lot of people switched from Intel to AMD".

The three I listed, there's another one from Intel about a decade back but non-operational atm. 2 laptops, 1 desktop working fine.

Might not be but the title is not the best.

iirc in the past these kinda threads just never end well.

My answer is more complex:

I loved my watercooled R9 5950X. I also love my R3 3100.
Then I wanted something compact as my main rig, so I switched to a 3600 that I couldn't for the love of God cool down with any low profile air cooler that I tried, so I passed it on to a friend.
Now I love my 11700. If I cool it with air, I can just lower the power limits to 100-120 Watts, or let it run wild on water. It's an undervalued and brilliant platform, really.

So my final answer is: both. :D

AMD is a lot better in the efficiency department - Intel is a lot better in the heat dissipation department. Performance isn't a topic to argue about as there's plenty of it on both sides.

I work only with AMD. I apply sanctions against Intel due to its anti-consumer policies and years of stagnation in which they lied to us that a quad-core was good enough. From Sandy Bridge to Skylake... those generations have been wasted.

Though there are two other Intel-powered laptops in the house. Both are Ivy Bridge generation, back when you had the freedom to swap out CPUs.

And I have a few test benches set up for LGA775 (Intel's golden era, in my opinion), AM3, AM3+ and FM2+.

I think that's because 4 cores were really good enough. If you had a Sandy i5 or i7, you were settled for nearly a decade.

The same way a 1060 6 GB is still good enough for 1080p gaming, despite what AMD and Nvidia want you to believe.

Edit: My brother still rocks a Core i7-870 (first gen) with a GTX 960 and only now is he starting to feel its limitations.

Intel currently but I had a first gen ZEN for years since 2018.

I'm more of a budget user in general and currently I couldn't find anything better than the 12100F for my use case/budget range.
That being said I owned more AMD systems in the past than Intel, this is like my second Intel system in total.:)

I own both Intel and AMD systems. The newest ones are AMD though. They have a good product to be fair. My next build might be Intel, who knows! But my AMD systems are just as stable if not more so than my old Intel systems.. for now..

If we're limiting to systems in more-or-less active use, then Intel. Four, I think? Five if one includes ye olde laptop. I haven't built an AMD system since Athlon 64, though have inherited/scavenged several since then that are mothballed since I don't have a use for them. Though with all the Zen stuff I've been really interested in giving AMD another go. The pricing is only now getting to where I'd want it to be, though, and now I don't need any more systems. :-/

An Intel Xeon 1240v2 system with an rx470 and a Ryzen 5 3600 with a 1660 super. So both and I've been on the PC train since the start of the pandemic.

AMD has always been my personal preference, but I have no problem recommending and building Intel systems for other people. Especially if they represent better value or are more suited to their needs.
