I'm a fan of the CM hyper 212+ it's on the cheap side and it works quite well. I also adore the noctua on my sig rig but it's also quite tall and not exactly the prettiest of colors lol.

The one that comes in the box is fine for most uses. :)

Do you plan on overclocking the chip? If so there are plenty of aftermarket coolers to help.

Do you have any constrictions like case limitations or motherboard layout that may hinder things?

Depends on how much you want to spend.

I would like to spend nothing, but that's probably not realistic.

I'm not looking for anything exotic, just good air cooling for overclocking.

There are no restrictions I'm aware of because of the mobo (Gigabyte P45) or the case (Antec 900).

Are there any good coolers that don't require me to remove my motherboard?

the Push pin fan system is a real bitch to mount if you dont take your mobo out. trust me. Intels pushpin system really really sucks -

but if you want cheap and cheerful, try find an OCZ Vendetta 2 - got one myself and it cools my overclocked 9550 just fine

The push pin system is terrible. Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take my mobo out.

i dunno which one that match to your need but all that you need to consider is:
1. the size of heatsink, most extreme hsf has big size that related to the weight. does it fit to your case?
2. material, most of hsf has heatpipes, from 3 to 6 or more, many heatpipes could bring more heat to fins so the processor would be cooler, the size of heatpipe and how it packed, like direct touch, how flat the base
3. what about the fan?, some hsf include fan on it, some hasnt, so you need to buy it byyourself
4. how hot your processor and the ambient temp, it will affect the hsf performance
5. support, i mean how flexible the hsf, like amd or intel based, could it matched with bigger fan or double fans
6. the price, skip this part if you have money tree
7. brand and benchmark, since out there many brand and type and so its kinda difficult to find except you search by yourself
h
what about this
Noctua NH-D14
Xigmatek Aegir SD128264
Silver Arrow from Thermalright
