so should i just but another 4850(does it have to be the same brand btw?) or sell the 4850 and buy an new one i am not intending to spend more than 140 euros (i guess 200 euros if i sell the card)

thnaks in advance i need to catch up with the new stuff yet but dont have the time to research all benchmarks

For crossfire any 4850 with do, and you can even crossfire it with a 4830. ;)

2x4850 kicks some ass, had 2 of them recently and i ran all my games in full hd without problems

just make sure your case has good airflow since they get a bit hot

I'd say CF, if you plan on keeping your current monitor.

*remembers my first computer CRT - black & white 14"* :) lol

If you're into games, a 5770 or even perhaps a 5830 will be within your budget and you'll have dx11.

Here you can see how your 4850 performs when compared to a 5770 and a 5830:

depends of if your 4850 is a 512 or a 1024 - if it's the latter it'll run faster at the higher res of the new screen, and worth crossfire-ing with a similar card. If the 512MB card, then sell and upgrade as you'll never get a better price for it than now...

akasa vortexx neo aftermarket coolers are very cheap, and very efficient to keep down noise and heat...

I wouldn't waste time with tri or quadfire since even if it did work your CPU wouldn't be fast enough to let the cards do their work. I had 2 4850s for 18 months and I can say they were really fast for the price you'll pay now. You could also just sell your 4850 and get a single 4890 1Gb.

The biggest fault my 4850s had was a lack of memory (framebuffer) on the cards so a single 4890 1gb would be more consistent and faster in newer titles.

Well the 5770 should OC to match the 4890 anyway. I would only take a 4890 over a 5770 if it was 20% less in price. HD5xxx series cards usually OC fairly well and run quite cool.

i would not take the 5830, its a big dissapointment imo, either a 5770 or you go for the 5850
