What to do now ?

So I've got a windows 10 copy I need to move to a new computer because the motherboard just died last week.
Last Saturday it was on fine, and played some old games on it. It's an old phenom II 1035T and a Gigabyte 790GX board that I've got windows 10 on a 500GB HDD with a HD 3870.
Well I turned it off and didn't turn on it last Sunday for the day. Monday I went to turn it on and got nothing, no beeps, no posts; replaced power supply, took out ram sticks one by by one, replaced cmos battery too, still nothing. I'm pretty sure the board is dead
Checked the video card and cpu in another older Asus M3a79T deluxe Am2 board they all work fine. Which is what I'm using right now, but I've only got one stick of Ram and it's only 2GBs and a different copy of windows.
So I want to move the copy of windows that the to a NVMe drive and a new MB and cpu, or would it be better just to plug it in and pull the stuff off it ? While I was out I did pick up a more modern GPU a GT 1030 but it's a the DDR4 model. I've been playing games from all the way back to 2007 on this.

I was thinking of just getting an APU. Since it's used for a lot of older games.
However since I do Have the gpu in hand. I could get better later on too
Or I might mess around with old dual card setup and a Ryzen 5800X I can get locally at MSRP ($449) (best buy) If I do that I might ended up buy the motherboard and ram their too. either the Asus TUF or MSI MPG They're slightly cheaper than newegg currently .If I buy the cpu/Mb/ram locally I will change case choice cause I know they won't fit in my case choices currently. The board I'm looking at on newegg is the AsRock X570m PRo AM4 for the case choice.

As for a case either the Thermaltake level 20 VT or Thermaltake core V21.
As for cooling I've got a fully copper (T.R.U.E) Thermalright Ultra Extreme I want to use since I seen they have an upgrade kit for AM4.
Am planning to hand this down to my bother in about a year. He's stuck on windows XP and a phenom II 940 on a Foxconn destroyer with only the motherboards graphics working it

5600x / 5800x cpu, B550 / x570 MB, 3600Mhz RAM. No clue on the case seeing how Thermaltake is right up there with NZXT as far as two brands I wouldn't be caught dead using.

Thermaltake isn't nearly as bad as Zalman. They're slowly getting better.

if you want until august the cheaper zen cpu's are coming... so 5600 non-x will be coming out next month... for like cheaper. same with 5800 non-x.

so wait a couple more weeks at this point.

If you're looking towards an APU (most sensible option for this PC), you should be waiting until the 6th of August for the 5600G, no doubt about it.

Ebay sellers have hiked up the prices on OEM 5600G so no point buying grey market from them this close to the launch. No sense buying an ancient 3400G unless it is literally $100.

If you want to get the most out of the iGPU on any modern 4000/5000 APU, get a cheap kit of 2x8GB Viper Steel 4000/4133/4400. It makes all the difference. Give it any of those above kits even at just XMP, and you will have no need for a 1030, which will be slower - you don't even need Vega 8.

That aside, 5600X prices are dropping, and 11400 prices are damn low. The 11400/11500 will still have a serviceable iGPU, and if you must have a 5600X then the 1030 prices have also been coming down and coming back in stock lately.

As for the X570M Pro4, just go for a B550M TUF or a B550M Mortar at that point. Both have dropped in price since launch, cheaper and objectively better and better featured boards than the ASRock.

Also, the comparison was to the GDDR5 1030 - DDR4 1030 will provide far inferior performance to even a stock Vega 7 iGPU with slower ram. Probably best you don't rely on that card unless you exclusively play 15 year old games.

unfortunately I need it for online classes for a while. This computer is just too slow even on the internet here
I figured that about the GPU. It will still be much faster than the one HD 3870 or the two HD 3470 in crossfire lol.

if all you need it for is online classes, why in the world did you go from APU's to 5800x in your choices? that seems like a weird jump.

because an APU has limited life span with driver support that can eventually end. To be able to remove an old card and place in a new one and not being stuck with a driver that doesn't work with newer windows/updates.
Also because I don't have to wait for shipping and can pick up in store locally. it's the only cpu in Stock at the moment there.

The 11600K uses a lot higher power consumption (and this, you cant really expect to use the stock cooler), so addanother $100 for cooling.

The 11500 is same expected street price as the 5600G, months before you will actually be able to buy it, and you can then hold-off on a video card until later!

According to who? 5600G MSRP is basically what 5600Xs are going to in a lot of places...

Also, IDK why any of these CPUs are at all a consideration for what is basically an office PC... Get a 10100 or 10400, B460, some cheap second hand memory and forget about it if you aren't gonna do anything 3d or CPU intensive on it.

If you do want to play games at high FPS then I guess 5600X and B550-A pro with some 3600 MT/s memory? But if it's just 60 fps low intensity games just about anything comet lake or zen1/+/2 will work more than fine.

Well I didn't think they'd have any stock of the 5600x, But when I went back, they did so I picked it up.
The Asus TUF didn't have enough pci-express 1x slots for me, so I went back exchanged it and got the MSI MPG Gaming WIFI and 16Gbs of corsair Vengeance RGB pro 3200mhz. Works better to keep my RGB off on the mouse I got when the computers off.

No one ever answer my other part about this about moving the copy of windows from the old HDD to a new SSD (500Gb Sata) :/
I think I can install windows and use a backup of files I have on USB 3.0 HDD to restore them.

Are all these X570 boards 16x pci-express first slot and 4x on the second pci-express slot ?
It's no wonder why no is using dual gpu if they are.

If you guys don't think this is a bottleneck I ran my Phenom II 1035T with those 3470 in crossfire on low and got 221FPS on Streetfighter 4. The Phenom II was running the cards at 16x & 16x

I only got 197FPS with the 5600x because of that bottleneck of 16x and 4x.
Oh I also picked up a corsair 4000D. Not easy to see in when everything is black including the motherboards :/ I had to use a light bar to see around in it.

The random reads on low K isn't much better than an old plater drive.
I had already bought the GT 1030 early cause I couldn't the screen to run it's 144hz on those old cards.
This card is still slightly slower than the HD 3870 in a few things which is odd. must be a memory bandwidth bottleneck.

No, I'm just referring to older hard drives being native 512 bit sectors, and copying that exact image to a new 4k sectored ssd will cause a massive performance hit.

SSDs are worth the upgrade The random 4k file accesses queue depth 1 on even the slowest SSDs are still an order-of-magnitude faster than hard drives.
