What to look for when buying a monitor?

I'm looking forward to buying a monitor in the near future
what do i look for when i'm searching?
yes i want a massive screen.. but i don't want to compromise image quality etc. etc.

should i buy a smaller 19" like this?

or a bigger (no brand) monitor like this?

or this?

how do i choose!

On paper the 22" displays are nearly identical. The main numbers you want to look at are response time, resolution and dynamic contrast ratio.

If your planning on buying of the 3, I like the viewsonic for it's price & resolution. Although take a look at this one ...

holy shit! 1920x1080
i'll be getting a 512mb card to play games on though (4850 or 4870)
will it still play games well?

Single 8800GTS games fine but I want to max all games with AA and sometimes throw it under 3D Discover.

i didn't know 1920x1080 monitors were so cheap nowadays

Go for the Viewsonic 22", after my 19" I was very desperate to upgrade, I'm now rocking a Dell 22" and it's night and day. I always go for a brand I'm familiar with (Dell, Acer, ViewSonic, etc)

Spec:
CPU: AMD 64 4400+
GPU: X1900XT
3 GB RAM
250GB HDD
Windows XP

and i'm looking to gradually upgrade it (first monitor.. then graphics card)
i'm unsure if the motherboard is AM2 or AM2+.. it might even be Socket 939 D:

Still for 70 that's not bad even if it is 939. May wanna check the power supply before snaggin a new video card though.

along with an AthlonX2 or PhenomII 720BE
depending on how much cash i've got.. unless the 4400+ doesn't bottleneck the 4850
then i won't bother

If it helps... I just bought a 23" one from Best Buy by accident and man I'm so happy.

Great monitor.. I was looking to upgrade my wife's PC to a 21" monitor then we both saw this one and she told me get the 23" and give me yours... I said what the heck lets do it

I was skeptical because I'm pretty darn picky and I have never seen a LG display that I can like.

Also this is a TN panel so people say they are cheap but good for gaming.

So I took it for a spin and boy.. what a great LCD display. It really rocks.

i'm just wondering if 1920x1080 is too big a resolution
i'm using 1440x900 atm and i like this ratio
i think 1680x1050 is the next step up
but with the limited desk space and money i have maybe i should just stick with a 20"
