ok so im going to go with a 8600gt with 1 or 2 gb of ram and do i still have to get a new psu?

I'd recommend getting 2 GBs of ram, 1GB x 2 - The 8600 GT isn't a powerful card but it's cheap, within budget and can play Warcraft at high although it would most definately struggle with any new games especially due to your weak processor. No you do not need a new PSU for the 8600 GT. However if you decide to buy a more powerful card a new PSU will be required.

PS.
SR2168HM appears to be your memory's model number and not your motherboard's model number. Like I said before once I know your motherboard's model number I can advice you better.

I say a 8800gs or 9600gso. And upgrade your memory to 2gb.

Either card is going to so massively outrun his Semp 3400 its insane.....

Being that the 8800GS is about $90 after MIR, I would still pick it over a $60 8600gt. He has a am2 mobo, so he can probably upgrade the cpu in the future.

Thinking about it, am2 cpu's are cheap. That would be a good upgrade too. You can get a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Brisbane 2.2GHz for $50.

Edit: you can get the 8600gt, a 4200x2, and 2x1gb memory...all for under $150.

No I wouldn't say that its not a bang for your buck card by all means.

But you have to make sure his board can take an x2.... :-/

Yup, it is compatible. Just make sure you have the latest bios, then do the cpu upgrade.

So get these stuff, should be pretty good upgrade.

lol i really don't think this fellow is going to be ripping out his processor and PS anytime soon. he barely knows what cpu-z is :(

i think the 8600GT is a worthy upgrade for him for now. pretty much plug and play....no extra power needed, cheap, etc. and none of it (not much at least) will be wasted on his Semp

should play WoW fine. i suppose if he wants to upgrade more down the line when he understands more thats ok. but the 8600GT will serve him well until then.

this stuff is scary for teh newb
