your choice, but NV has yet to provide a Tangible part which is putting them behind the release curve. Also waiting for Nvidia means waiting for an equivalent DX11 part.

some peoples will wait for NVIDIA to buy NVIDIA product
some peoples will wait for NVIDIA to compare and select the best for them

The current information were getting on the web contradicts that , that's why.

It's certainly not good news to be relying on.

Buying a HD5850 or higher would save you pretty much some costs over a whole year in just idle mode compared to a 4850/4890 card.

I'm sticking with a HD3870 512MB but in some games its not too powerfull enough anymore for 1920x1080 resolutions and above. Edit: I'd buy a 5850.

I'm waiting for the Nvidia release, so that I can catch one used from all the people who bought ATi just to hold over for GT300.

I disagree with that statement. I think because of the rescission and the fact that you could buy two or three 4870's/4890's last gen for the same price you could buy a GTX 295 or GTX 285. I think people are finally realizing that. Those 2 or 3 4870's or 4890's would beat any GTX 295 or GTX285 Why spend more money to get less performance?
I think it will be same way with this Generation. Not that there is anything wrong with Nvidia..... It's just that people are watching their money more.

I'll probably blow my wad on a 5870 in about a year when they come down in price and my 4870 can no longer handle new games @ 1920x1080 w/AA, that is, Nvidia doesn't release anything that blows my socks off.

I love ATI ... That's what I started building with. But I did go to Nvidia there for awhile and was going to even stay with Nvidia too because I didn't want to have to switch drivers or do a clean install. But I got tired of waiting and getting no real evidence that what I was even waiting for was going to be worth it.
So I went back to my personal preference of ATI. I got me a beautiful Diamond HD5870. And if in the future Nvidia comes out with a Nasty card well hey I'm sure ATI will just drop they're prices again. Then I'll just X-fire them up and still whoop it.
So I say just go ATI now why wait and maybe get a better card that will be $300 hundred dollars more for 10% better.

HD4850 and E5200 are still doing the job wright. Waiting for NV to enter the battlefield and bring the prices down. Even do saying "NVIDIA bringing prices down" - does feel weird :D.

I really don't see any point in changing my current 4890. It may be not has fast as some of those 5XXX cards but all my games run quite nicely so far.

Unconfirmed.

Also would seem silly to use 28nm on just one card.

By the time they've cracked 28nm enough I'm sure they'll be on the 6 series not 5 series.

Yeah, I know, my searches for 5890 were rather disappointing... Still, waiting after Xmas can only be a good thing for prices. Where I live the cheapest HD 5850 is around 260€ (385$), while on Amazon US I see them around 310$...

5850 ordered now (and I'm pretty sure that this horrible kiddin style catalyst will make me switch back to nvidia as soon as they got their dx11 cards ready)

In the past (since matrox failed to keep track with the 3D market back in the early 80th) it was always like this. First an ATI ... fed up with the catalyst sooner or later, did go for the slightly faster nvidia, and since this company always comes late, switched back to ATI for the next speed step. Always telling myself, catalyst isn't that bad, which I learned it still is within 4-6 months ... matching the nvidia delay, thus easy to cure that misery.

By the time they've cracked 28nm enough I'm sure they'll be on the 6 series not 5 series.

I was just looking this subject up last night. Now I found conflicting stories......

1st....... ATI would create a 40nm revision of the 5800 Series in the form of 5890,5830, and 5790 in 2010 while moving there production to Global Foundries. After the move was complete the 32NM 6800 series would be released to the public by February 2011.

2nd...... ATI would create a 32nm revision of the 5800 Series in the form of 5890,5830, and 5790 in 2010 while moving there production to Global Foundries. After the move was complete the 28NM 6800 series would be released to the public by February 2011.

3rd....... ATI would not be creating any new revision cards. But their Northern Island cards would be available from sale to the public from Global foundries until Q4 2010. That story did mention that ATI was on top of things and would be getting it going as soon as possible.

Personally This is what I believe ( no I am not an insider this is just my conclusion ) I think that the 5800 series will be revised in the form of a 5890 a 5950 and a 5790. I don't think that it will get a Die shrink at all. It will still be 40NM. That will start happening between February and July 2010. Of course partners will come out with their own revisions as well.
The reason I think this part is ........ You don't do a die shrink during the moving of your Fabrication.
Then I believe the 6800 series will come out in late late Q4 2010 or early early Q1 2011. Again for the reason's stated above. But I do believe that the Nod will be 32NM instead of 28NM. Again because of the move. Unless their getting really good yields. Even ATI's GPU road map says that the Northern Island GPU's will be 32NM.

http://brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/11/2/amds-next-gen-gpu-manhattan-and-northern-islands-use-32nm-process.aspx

But again this is just all my opinion it is not based in fact! I am just guessing. But from the giving knowledge so far I would say it's as good as a guess as the next guys!
