What would be a fun cheap LGA 775 chip to over clock?

I'm thinking about reviving the Blitz and want to abuse a cheap but fun to clock chip. Probably won't do anything more extreme than chilled liquid but I thought you guys might have some suggestions. All the rig will do is heat the shop.

The E4300 I had overclocked like a dream. 3.2 Ghz (stock 1.8) on stock voltages.

e2180 is best .. u can overclock it to 3.0 or above

My vote is for the E2XXX series, too. Can be had very cheap and can clock pretty high.

E3500: 13.5 Multiplier, 1MB L2 for easy overclocking goodness.(My E3200 does 4.0GHz on air).

E6500K: AFAIK, the first K series processor. The only inexpensive and unlocked multiplier processor on 775. However, it isn't really that inexpensive anymore, and is a little hard to find these days, usually going for ~$175. But oh man are they fun!

My E8500 runs at a comfortable 4.11GHz 24/7 so I can recommend that. When I first got it, I managed about 4.8GHz, but I didn't have the right cooling to keep it there and I don't really want to thrash my main system so hard. At that speed, it put out lots of heat and consumed lots of power.

The rule does indeed seem to be Intel CPUs with a small cache overclock the best, which isn't surprising really.

Oh and why socket 775? It's a dead socket now. Do you have an old S775 mobo perhaps?

E8x00 and E6500k are great chips, but seem to hold their price too well, of the cheaper ones available, i'd try an E5x00 or E7x00, both usually went over 4ghz ok, unlike the E4x00 or e2xx0

I'll second this and recommend the E8400'x Xeon equivalent, the E3110. A good alternative that might give you even more headroom to play with.
