Well better being a nVidia fanboy and when they say jump you jump to the crazy prices lol.

Lets face it only reason the 980TI is so cheap as they were worried about AMD prices.

AMD fan in Nvidia card is cheap shocker!

I think they just want to put the hurt on AMD, and it's working.

You've made your points. Lets move on without the name calling. It doesn't make for a good thread to read.

On topic: If I could have *anything*? How about something only a ton of money can buy? Like a dev team to figure out how to get voltage control on the R9 Fury series cards to work in 3D mode? Wouldn't that make having a Fury that much more interesting? :p

In all serious, hardware wise, I would get a Titan X if money wasn't a thing. At least that way, you're not thinking about VRAM for a while but in reality, the cost is simply too high.

Help me out guys. I torn between a 980ti Strix or a Titan X. I realise that the Titan X doesn't OC very well and that High clocks on 980ti's can have them performing better than Titans. But surely a Titan under water would OC a bit better and then outperform a OC'd 980ti?
I have just ordered a Asus PB287Q 4K monitor. So for 4k gaming what's the best option, water cooled Titan X or Strix 980ti?

If you push both a TitanX and a 980 Ti to the limit the TX will usually win but the difference is very small and the silicon lottery plays a part too. Most LN2 benching records belong to the TXs.

Having said that the performance between the two cards is very close and if you are going to use a single card the 980 Ti is the better option as it is a lot cheaper. It is only if you are going to use 3 or 4 cards @2160p that it is worth using TitanXs, this is where the extra VRAM can be put to good use.

I see. Thank you for that explanation, this makes sense of the odd things I have been reading. And this is good news because now I can buy the Strix which is much more exciting than the referance Titan. I have just had a look at some gaming benches of the 980ti and at stock clocks the gap between it and titan is sooo small, and turning those core clocks up makes a big difference in fps. So 980ti Strix it is then, can't wait :)
Thanks again for the reply.

Last time I checked, I still couldn't order a Fury (non-X) because they're all sold out. Don't blame if the product isn't there to be bought. By the time a Fury is available, I might as well wait for Fury Nano to see what comes out of it.

In all seriousness, I can't say I'm excited about any one product currently offered at a reasonable price point. I might just be indecisive though.

You people do know why the Nano doesn't make this list or the other one right?

It blows my mind that I keep hearing people say they'd even consider it. If given the funds to buy whatever you wish. You have to be kidding me. :wtf:

Why? Because it's going to suck balls in comparison. Who in their right mind would thinks that's a better option for an unlimited budget? Because it's smaller? It's cheaper? It's less powerful by design? What good does any of that do you if you've got the money to spend on anything better? You WILL NOT get more for your money with a Nano. You WILL get less. Guaranteed. Regardless of how much you spend on it.

My point being, since I know you're not going to get it:

Wait for the Nano is not an option...for good reason. That's beyond retarded.

That was in response to: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/t...-you-had-the-money.213802/page-3#post-3312668
Also the point of waiting for it would be to see if it drives prices down. Once again, With Fury X, we had a pretty good idea where the Fury was going to land. The question is how would it impact prices. The answer is not as much as one one hope but, it helps to be optimistic that it might turn out at least a little better with hope that current get prices go down a bit more but... that's all really beside the point.

On topic: Anyone who has unlimited funds to get any one GPU who wouldn't get a Titan X is a moron IMHO. Why wouldn't you get the best if money wasn't a thing?

Sounds like it was neither driver devs nor marketing that was responsible for your friend's troubles, but a defective card.

Maybe you should have exchanged it for another one. That's exactly why I never buy graphics cards online, only at a local computer store, just in case I have to pull it back out, put it back in the box and go get another one. And my experience from the time of my very first graphics board in 1991 until now, is that the failure rate for graphics cards is exactly the same, regardless of the chip manufacturer. These days, that's an AMD or nVidia chip.
I don't believe his card is defective as it runs great now, these black screens are TDR's and have been fairly common with 290's and also Tahiti. A few are possibly due to faulty hardware but many are driver bugs and documented in the Catalyst release notes.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst15-7WINReleaseNotes.aspx
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst14-9WINReleaseNotes.aspx
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst14-4WINReleaseNotes.aspx

The known issue below from 15.7 seems to be present in every second Catalyst release, it's been a problem for the better part of 2 years and still not fixed, plus it affects other cards not just the 285.
This one drives me up the wall more than any other.........

I decided to get the deal that someone offered me. Three Sapphire R9-290X Tri-X cards. (200 bucks apiece)
I have a GTX-980 Windforce on hand, and I'll probably get another one like it for SLI.

Maybe a Fury in the future but I'm in no rush.
