Currently in my Country 120 SSDs seem to be the best value.

Are 120 SSDs a reasonable size?

Which is the preferred reliable brand or are they all the same?

120 is probably the normal although with prices dropping 240/256 is not that big of a stretch. I have trouble filling even half of my 256GB, and if I had to do it again I wouldve taken a 120/128gb.

Depends on what you want the ssd for mate, if you want it for storage, then big as possible, if you want it for an os/program installations then yes, 120gb is a good size.and they are dirt cheap now too! xD

120gb is fine for me, i use about 60gb with a few programs and a couple of games. A lot of other stuff (Music, Pictures, Video, steam games) i link to my 2TB drive and just keep the things i use regularly on the SSD.

This program is extremely useful when you want to move stuff over to a HDD: http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html

I'll be going for a 120Gb due to being the best value for money.

Which brands are reputable for reliability?

I was thinking of going for either Corsair or Intel.

I bought a Corsair Force 3 the other day. I am very happy with the speed and it carries a 3 year warranty. I saw on newegg that they were going for $80 after rebate (i had to pay $120 for mine where i live)

I can't comment on reliability as it's so new, but monthly system backups shouldn't be a problem with the size of the drive.

I am using Intel 330 180GB. Bang for the buck and I believe 180GB is the sweet spot for SSD's (provided you only use it as a system drive). 120/128GB is kinda small for me and 240/256GB is quite too much already.

With OS, a few important programs/software, and 2 games (MP3 and BF3) I am already at 51GB... So If you only have 120/128GB, that's more or less half of it already... ;)

Those are the most expensive SSDs over here.
The extra 8Gb puts it at near $200

And add the Samsung 830 also, great drive I can vouche for.

The Samsung 830 is not a bad price over here.

The Corsair Force 3 was the first SSD to go for on my list.
The second is the Force GT.
Both seem to be selling like hot cakes over her as they are a pretty good price.

I've got to say, 120 is the reasonable minimum size of an SSD. I'd say that 240 is my personal preference, given the propensity for loading all my programs onto the SSDs (read: plenty of games on Steam).

Corsair, Intel, and Samsung are generally considered the best brands for reliability. I'm using OCZ, but only with the very latest firmware. The OCZ drives are generally cheapest, but they also seem to have the greatest instant failures or DOA propensity. I've not seen this personally, as 4 separate 240 GB Agility3 drives are all still running well as of this writing. The trade-off for this cheap prices is a little speed though (I can't tell the difference in real world scenarios though).

I'll be looking at the SSD as primarily an OS drive.
Yes I have Steam in mind and intend on shifting the games folder to my 1TB drive.

I think OCZ was the brand which I had heard of failure rates being the most stand out of all the brands as well.
Taking a quick look at the pricing yes they are the cheapest of the lot too.
Even their top end SSDs.

I love my Kingston HyperX 120GB (non 3K). But ive read that the 3K series are identical except for the memory used.

Do SSDs come with mounting brackets or are they a separate item?

My OCZ SSD came with an adapter ( I assume you mean 2.5/3.5" for mounting in case).

most come with mounting brackets, but you dont need them. you can really just throw/hang/screw your ssd anywhere in your computer. due to no moving parts they will just work without problems

With the Sammy, look for the MZ-7PC128D-AM, which is the desktop upgrade kit and comes with the 2.5/3.5 adapter. The MZ-7PC128B is the bare drive, and the MZ-7PC128N is the notebook kit; the B and N do not come with the adapter.

I have to agree with Wizzard's review, I have a 120GB version and a 256GB version and both run great. Strong performance with stunningly no issues.

I did come from Corsair's ssd's which left me ridden with RMA's and pain from crashes and having to reformat/reinstall.

Plus the prices on these are so cheap, I saw a 120GB version for less than $90 USD a while back!

I too agree with W1zz's review and mlee49, having 2x256's without any issues. Never a bluescreen or lockup of any kind, which is more than I can say about my Sandisk Extreme. I believe latest fw fixed my Extreme, nothing has happened lately, but with the Samsung I'd say it's very reliable.
