whats beter 2x8800 GTS or 1x8800 GTX

hi im thinking of buyin a 2ed XFX 8800 GTS 320mb XXX or one 8800 GTX what would come out on top i know the 8800GTX has still got more mem than 2 8800GTS 320mb but in gameing what would be beter

SLI currently only offers roughly 30-40% increase over 1 card (not 100% like most people think).
So if you score 100fps with one 8800GTS than you will get roughly 140fps.

However, I would tell you to get the 8800GTX since it will give you more power than 2 8800GTS's in SLI.
SLI is a waste unless you have to 2 top end cards.

id have to say gtx, the gts's may be faster by a little, but i think they do use more power, and also with a single gtx you have more memory and also you can always sli another gtx later on.

Plus the extra heat, space reduction, required SLI board, wattage/amperage...

There has to be a really good reason to go SLI, and as Bruins mentioned, it's a bit futile unless they are GTX/Ultras.

IF you go SLI an 8800GTS and an 8800GTS, both cards will run at the 8800GTS's speed.
This is bc with SLI the cards work together, not independently to produce the image. That is why the faster card will slow down to the slower cards speeds.

Sell your 8800GTS and get the GTX

Also please note, that your E6600 will slighly bottleneck your 8800GTX. So do not go SLI with this proc. since you wont see an improvement. If you want to eventually go 8800GTX SLI, you are going to have to get a better processor to see an improvement.

He cant...The SLI drivers READ the cards Bios and the GTX has a different one than the GTS.

Tried it with an 7900GTX and an 7900GT a while back, didnt work.
With the 8800 who knows

You can run a any 8800 GPU and any other 8800 GPU... it will just run at the slower ones specs

well.....a high oc will help anyways. but im not sure where the oc disappears, it might be that it doesn't, im not sure.

He is running a 22" monitor... The e6600 would be bottlenecked at lower resolutions. But with that monitor nedding the higher resolutions......He would benefit from it, hell even need it

If he is going to be using high res than it would be better to put 8800GTS in SLI. SLI is good for high res.If you aren't going to be using high res than you would be better getting a GTX.

I read a very interesting article on this. At the lower resolutions the 2 GTS's keep up with the GTX, but at much higher resolutions the GTS's perform better than the GTX, which (over here atleast) is cheaper than a single GTX. Personally I would go with another GTS.
