Near future... um... let me see.
The dollar will completely crash sending global markets into chaos, stock markets will collapse... famine... more wars as we fight over resources... certainly a lot more natural disasters in the pipeline.

We could possibly go backwards a few steps, maybe back to the stoneage

imo big technological revolutions will be: the whole personal healthcare revolution (living 100 years), genetics (create-your-own-baby, get 130 IQ for the price of 120), breaking the mind-machine barrier (download porn to your brain), creating a real AI (skynet)

By 2050 the population will increase by 3-4 billion, 80% of that in Africa/India, aka the poor countries. Hunger will become a world epidemic, oil will be exhausted, and the environment will be screwed. Rich people will be well off with their steak-priced hotdogs and spam. The poor wont be so lucky. Wars will break out, tyrants will rise to power. Surely there will be some sort of viral epidemic and a few major natural disasters.

Oh, and the eyePod from Futurama will become a reality. Every rich person will have one, and it will read their thoughts. Advertisements will be beamed straight to your brain. Marketing companies will become super powers because after years of watching people's reactions during movies, they know exactly what make the masses 'tick.'

A man will predict a thousand years of chaos with the statistical knowledge learned by the marketers. He will hand select people to form a second society at an unknown location. All the brightest people will have a safe haven.
