Whats the best gaming headset under $100?

what gaming headset do you think is the best? ( under $100 )

Will 5.1 virtual sound or 7.1 sound have any difference at all?

I have been using Turtle Beach HPA2's I got for around $60 from Dell.com (search the headset in google). They're amazing, great 5.1 sound, very loud if you want, great for gaming, tunes, movies, comfortable, the mic is detatchable, is adjustable and records very clear. I highly recommend em.

7.1 sound really isn't that big of a deal to me, 5.1 is good enough.

I would avoid any headsets made by Altec Lansing, had 3 die on me, all the same way mic stopped working, their speakers on the other hand are quite nice.

I'd recommend Sennheiser HD 555s. You can pick up a pair for just around the 100 dollar price mark, maybe a little bit less. They're brilliant.. although come without a mic.

Hmm. How about Sennheiser 280 pro?
I heard that hd555 has an open design so everyone can still hear the sound while I use it.
I want to listen to a music or play a game while I am neither distracted nor distract others.

I have a set of the 280 pro's and love them, honestly like having a sub woofer on your ear is how I like to describe the quality of the bass.

Another vote for the HD 555's here, but they do have an open design which you don't want.

hmm. I am almost going for seinnheiser series. However one thing that might hinder me from
buying it is that it is a stereo headphone.

I play fps games like Bf2, cod4 and one of the main reason why im getting a new headset/headphone is that I want to be able to know where the enemies are coming from.
Will I be able to hear sound ( precisely )from any direction like surround sound headset?
In fact, what is the difference between seinheiser vs surround speaker when it comes to fps game?

What sound card do you have? If you have a Creative card or the Auzentech Prelude, you will get a damn fine surround sound over the stereo headset. Im using my HD 555's (2.0 stereo headphones) with my less than stellar Audigy 2 Value, and I can tell exactly where my enemies are. IMO the surround sound headsets are a bit of a marketing gimmick.

I have sound blaster x-fi xtrememusic. Will hd280 be as good as decent 7.1 usb virtual sound headset if i use it with my current soundcard?

If the headset is USB, I believe your soundcard has no effect on it. I could be mistaken though.
