I never really liked Bose as they use paper cones vs. aluminum like other companies do.

Google "Spherex 5.1" for a system that will rock your socks off! I started with those and then bought a 5.1 system of Mirage (the company that designed the Spherex speakers) Omnisats and Mirage Sub.

oh, and an x-fi prelude...

I totally agree. Although I must admit their earbuds for Mp3 players do rock.
Are you an audiophile?

Depends on your requirement, the Bose Companion is very high-quality 2.1 set.

I'm using a USB 2.0 card with a JVC 3 disk stero system, 400Watts. and when in the battlefield its very lifelike on a 22inch tv. Its 2 years old the stero system, but the sound is crystal clear.

The Bose will sound fantastic. Not an accurite reproduction of sound, but it will sound fantastic. If your getting them though, you would be as well getting the Creative X-fi fatality.

If you want the top sounding sound card then the X-Fi Prelude is the one to have, but you'll need decent, proper speakers.
Auzen X-fi Prelude

If you want good speakers you want to look at hifi amps and book shelf speakers (at least). Dont know what the market is like in the US but in the UK, these are a basic setup.

Isn't the Bose companion USB interface? So wouldn't the sound card be useless?

Well if you really want the best sound system then PC speakers are just a joke. You need a nice receiver and some big speakers. Search for Home Cinema receivers and speakers, they sound waaay better than that Logitech junk.

If price really doesn't matter, you'll get the best quality "big sound" by running a digital line out to a good receiver and then connecting quality speakers. I like Paradigm for speakers personally, but there are a lot of brands that can make the cut.

 O..M..G..
I never imagined such stuff even existed! And there I was going to recommend my X-Fi Xtreme Music and Z-5500 system... :p

Thinking about it, when making a choice the size of speakers depends on the size of your room. It's far better to invest in the quality of the sound (in the sound card mostly, and in the speakers obviously) rather than in sheer size and volume. It's true that you can get really big stuff, but what would be the point of overkill?

The point is that 100W speakers sound better at let's say 20% volume than 20W speakers at max. It's all about the bass baby! Puny computer speakers are just overpriced junk. I have an LG 2x120W RMS system that plays music better than any computer speakers out there.

Z-5500 are good computer speakers, but if your after the best you need to ditch the computer speakers and move to more professional equipment. Ditch the plastic cheap stuff and move to more adult wooden bookshelf speakers and a high quality AV-Receiver.

X-Plosion is a decent soundcard, entry level if your after Dolby Digital and DTS and would do the job perfectly at a cheap price.
