Whats the difference between these 2 HD4870's?

apart from the physical shape of the cooler and colour of the PCB, whats the differences between these two HD4870's??

Is the black cooler better than the red one or is there any gains or losses?? cant seem to find anything about it on the web.

I don't think there's any substantial difference - they're both HD4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E and both of the same brand Sapphire... but maybe I'm missing something out?

I think the one with the black cooler is part of the Toxic series which generally is already OC'ed and might go a little further than the one with the red cooler(standard 4870 cooler). Toxic series cards generally average 35-60 bucks more but you get what you pay for, most of the time.

Ok
The red pcb and cooler is the ATI /AMD Standard version witch should be called the version 1 series.You can tell because it has the AMD logo on it.
The Blue pcb and Black cooler is Sapphire`s own designed pcb and it is used now for the Toxic and regular 4870`s.

ok cool, thanks a million as i bought a HD4870 online last week and got it Friday, i saw the new PCB cooler on it and i was like.. "that looks like a toxic cooler, but i didnt buy one of them..." but if this new cooler is better and stuff then happy days!!

This black+blue one...

...is the 1GB card by sapphire, it's own design. The red one is also Sapphire's own design, albeit in accordance with AMD's reference specs. There are minor deviations between that and the reference PCB you see from ITC (GeCube/Diamond). Sapphire's source is PCPartner.

My 4870 512MB is exactly like the black/blue version, from the fan to the heat pipe to the stickers on it! Am I gaining anything performance wise from the sapphires design?

I'm pretty sure your black cooler is gonna be better than the stock cooler.. I have an MSI with the standard cooler on it, and like most other people's, it runs h-o-t-t HOT
