We're wondering about the adoption rates of fast storage. What kind of storage is the fastest in your computer?

Normally this would be the drive that has your Windows installation (your C: ), but we understand that some creators could have faster devices than even their C: for their data-sets (such as RAID volumes).

I would imagine asking for storage adoption in a tech forum gives a somewhat skewed result towards the high end.

There should be options for NVMe SSD RAID and SATA SSD RAID.

Yes, I tend to agree as my main system is rather OTT, I have:
1 x Intel VROC NVMe RAID 1 (Mirror) with 2 x Intel SSDPEKKW256G8 - Main Windows Installation
3 x Intel SSDPEKKW256G8
1 x Intel SSDPED1D280GA

Currently in the laptop I'm rocking a m.2 SATA for boot and a regular 2.5" SATA for everything else. Both Samsung.
Definitely going for a nvme m.2 drive once I get to build a desktop.

Switched to all Nvme x4 non-raid drives in rig, and tiered SSD/HD on NAS, wouldn't go back!

Anything critical is stored online now.
Anything i think unworthy of the upload time, is not worth duplication.
Its not like the old days where i kept a copy of a every OS and their updates, game ISO's and all patches, and all these other things - because you can easily download games (via steam, origin etc) with all the updates and no need for CD keys, you can download legit OS ISO's easily (and your account stuff is all cloud synced in them as well) so its just a very different era
Then (for me at least) add in that 5 years ago everyone here in aus was at best on cable with <10Mb uploads or me on DSL with <1Mb upload and now i have a 100/40 connection, and its a very different situation.

Recommended cloud storage?

I'm currently using OneDrive (premium) and iCloud with 2SV for personal stuff. Both serve me well and are affordable yearly.

I'm just about to purchase my first NVMe drive...I'm trying to figure out which one is best for my tablet.

Currently, on my desktop...I'm using a combo of a Samsung EVO 860 500 GB SSD and a Samsung FIT Plus 256GB USB Flash Drive and I love it. On the tablet(HP Elite x2 1012 G1), I do about the same albeit on a smaller basis. I have a 128GB SSD(looking to upgrade to a 256GB), and then I used an SD card instead of a USB flash drive. The SD card in my tablet is a Samsung 64GB EVO Select.

Why are you using USB Flash Drives and SD cards Liquid Cool? Good question. I use them for back up devices! They're small, unobtrusive and work perfectly with Microsoft's old SyncToy 2.1. I set everything up to autobackup once a week through Task Scheduler and never bother with it again.

SyncToy Tablet.jpg

I don' t do "the cloud thing" and I like to keep things real simple...this works for me.

:),

Liquid Cool

As an aussie.... no. Bad human.

Relevant to the thread, all my external storage is flash memory now too - 64GB drive on keys, 240GB (MSATA) samsung external SSD
That was the most kindest reply yet about fosters beer from an Aussie:slap:. Oh ya I have 2 nvme drives and one ssd drive.

Currently:
C:\ 1x 1TB SATA SSD
D:\ 2x 1TB SATA SSD RAID 1
E:\ 2x 4TB SATA Mech RAID 1
F:\ 2x 4TB SATA Mech RAID 1

To the contrary many of us mass storage folk store video for projects, ISOs, drive images and much more.

When I finally rebuild my rig my realistic drive setup will likely be:

C:\ 1x 1TB NVMe SSD
D:\ 2x 2TB NVMe SSD RAID 1
E:\ 2x HGST 12TB Mech RAID 1

Ideally I'd have:

C:\ 2x 2TB NVMe SSD RAID 1
D:\ 2x 16TB NVMe SSD RAID 1

I'm looking forward to needing to utilize fewer SATA ports that I am now (currently 10). I'd love to see higher capacity mechanical drive prices come down at least some.

I want to say my 4 1TB 660P in RAID 0 but it is actually my 2 Adata SX8200 Pro 512s in RAID 0 that is the king. All of them are in 2 Asus M2 Riser cards (one of my favourite tech purchases of all time).
