had it virtually every time i used it in the past couple of month, so i don't think its hw related, and only could think of it coming from not being online while using it?

Just to confirm, you are confirming that you had no internet connection when you saw that error? If yes, then that's normal.

NVCleanstall connects to gpu.me to fetch the list of driver versions it can download and install

i understand when ppl say "your on your own.." legally, but those kind of things should be mentioned in a "read me" etc,
would make it a lot easier for ppl using it the first time...

that 404 is from the control panel app. since you're getting a 404 you have internet at this point?

Found the problem, I had the .Appx file for the NVIDIA Control Panel app download named as ".appx". This is fixed now

I'm sure it's quite common to disconnect from the internet before running DDU to get rid of the old driver. Problem is, windows will download and reinstall it's standard driver before you have time to install your own, so to remedy that, I don't reconnect to the internet until I'm done upgrading the driver. To sum it up:

1. Download driver and latest version of DDU and NVCleanstall
2. Disconnect from internet
3. Reboot to safe mode
4. Run DDU
5. Restart in normal mode
6. Run NVCleanstall (point to the downloaded driver) and install the custom driver
7. Reconnect to the internet

Next version of NVCleanstall will block Windows Update from downloading any drivers (for as long as NVCleanstall is running)

Sure, I'm a few versions behind on my driver, so I need to upgrade anyway. But it won't solve the issue with windows doing unwanted stuff between running DDU and NVCleanstall, will it?

You unplug the network cable until you're started NVCleanstall, then connect the cable, so it can download the driver you want, directly.

not sure why you mentioned ddu/procedure, as this was only about NVC giving me an error,
and i wanted to make sure its not related to use/cleaning.
i use my machine "dedicated", meaning if im not doing anything requiring connection,
im offline, so i have zero issues with win doing anything.

besides, you might wanna spend 2min to go thru app/tool settings,
as DDU has a setting to prevent win from installing drivers over internet,
so there is no need to disconnect ...

Edit: Yes, I've had the gpu:me error too. Probably because of no internet, due to my outdated procedure. Anyway, the error didn't worry me much since I believe it came up as soon as NVC loaded, before even selecting any NV driver? I don't think NVC does anything with the driver already installed on the system?

Just to clarify: There's two modes of operation: download the driver within nvcleanstall or use files on disk. The gpu.me error is from the first mode, trying to load the available driver versions. The second mode is independent of that and is designed to work without any internet connectivity
