@bug both are good in value. Just that saving up $70 isn't gonna do justice when one can hold out a little more & opt for the 2060. Sure $70 can buy you anything but skipping out that $70 will make anyone disappointed thanks to "poor decision-making". As someone who owns the 2060, cranking up the settings close to maxed out is nice once in a while without worrying about fps drops, whether at 1080p or 1440p.
Yeah, well, $279 isn't that cheap to begin with. If you can afford the extra $70, go for the 2060. But not everybody affords that.

I recently built a machine that cost $600 total without Windows license. On a machine like that, it was RX 570 that won out. I got it for $130 and that is plenty of power for 1080p gaming.

If you go up to $1000 for the budget, I think 1660/1660 Ti makes sense if you want a rounded out machine, or 2060 if you're prioritizing gaming.

Hopefully, AMD will win back the rest of the stack with Navi. For now, the only thing they have going is price. RX 570 is the only card that I think is worth it against the Nvidia competition (1050 Ti, 1060, etc), at least until the 1650 comes out.

2060, but a shame that a 'mid-range' card is priced so high, imo
because it's not mid-range, extremely beefy card close to 2070. The 1060 or 1660 is mid-range, definitely not the 2060

RX 570 all the way. Canada computers has one on sale right now for $139.99 Canadian that works out to $104 US and you get 2 free games that will cost more than $104. The 2060 in Canada is over $400 Canadian.

When ya look at the performance return for the cost increase, it's hard to not wanna stop till ya get to the 2060. The 2070 also has good return on the dollar but I hesitate to call that a mid range card. I'm speaking from the standpoint of putting a certain amount of money away each month till ya can afford a decent playing experience. I'd keep putting the purchase off till I could get a 2060. As for anything below the 1660.... sorry, but that's just too much of a compromise on today's games .... even at 1080p. If it can't play a game like Witcher 3 at 80 fps or better, wouldn't buy anything till I could get there. At this point in time, not recommending anything below the 1660.

gpu prices from different makers tend to overlapped especially when one have magnitude of SKU
cheapest RTX 2060 at 395 dollars by Inno3d and most expensive GTX 1660 Ti also at 398 by ASUS (that based on my local retail store at least),
and also note that there are 'steps' between most SKU from same brand with 10-30 dollars gap

do you choose highest tier SKU from lesser GPU or lowest tier SKU from more powerful GPU?

The 1660Ti is 33% faster than the 1060 6GB it replaces and it's released at the same price 1060 was. If that's not moving much, what is?
(Don't worry, it's rhetorical question, I know you're only looking at the red camp ;) )

In all fairness the 2060 makes the 1660ti kind of obsolete, but I guess if you get a rash from having RT cores its a good buy. The price gap just doesn't justify losing those extra resources IMO. And Nvidia obviously agrees; the 1660ti is only there to increase the incentive for a 2060. Oh yea, and to fight an RX590 but nobody cares about that anyway.

Can't say that a $380 card is mid-range. That belongs to the $275-$300 bracket.

Price never determined any range, but rather the price relative to the rest of the stack. Value of currency changes over time... even based on that alone you can't maintain that price = 'whatever range'. If GPUs on 7nm start at $500,- what will you do? Call everything high end, higher end, ultra high end?

Need to chime in abit, remember when RX 580/570/1060/1070 peaked at 400-700 dollars when mining craze? price doesnt automatically 'upgrade' mid tier gpu to high end based on pricing alone
it is performance what differentiate the gpu one to another

I guess you're right. $200-300 has traditionally been the point where ROI took a significant blow (i.e. $1 spent above that didn't buy yoiu that much of a performance increase anymore). So most people bought into this range which made it the sweet spot. Somehow the sweet spot became synonym with mid-range.

The shift that happened isn't that apparent while looking at green cards. But take a look at AMD: entry-level 200 series cards were R5 (210-235). Fast forward to 500 series and entry-level is now 540-560.

I personally believe mid-range to be between $150-250. Obviously on PC tech forums a lot of people will have cards above AMD 570-580, Nvidia GTX 1050 - 1060 so that can distort what is actually out in the PC gaming community.

I've always maintained that for Nvidia, midrange is their x50 ~x60 product, and high end starts at x70. So far that seems to remain pretty intact even with the price shifting, and it even still fits in with your ideas about price/midrange. I also think that Nvidia will maintain that psychological barrier-product in the x60 because people have gotten used to that. Even now, with the RTX 2060, they also position a 1660ti next to it that is under 300 bucks. And their 1660 non ti maintains the launch price level of Kepler, even; GTX 660 also launched at around $210,-

Well x50 is kinda stretching it for midrange but definitely x60 has always been “the middle” and “bang for the buck”

True but then again, there is a whole budget segment below even that which includes an MX-chip and a GT1030 and is performance wise in a realm just above IGPs, though with Vega and faster Intel IGPs is losing ground. In that sense, if the power creep comes from 'below', that also adds some logic to Nvidia's 'buy up' scheme, their lower end is simply getting devoured.

I voted for the RX 570. Easily the best bang for the buck card I've purchased in years.

$349 is the mid-range now? That's just about what my new Ryzen pc cost me...minus the c-note for the Sapphire RX 570 ITX.

Best,

Liquid Cool

Easily the best bang for the buck card I've purchased in years.

Yes this may be true but the title says "Most Interesting"..

I really find nothing interesting about a RX 570 especially when its born from a RX 470 which is hold old now?

Interesting crowd. I don't think I fit in here anymore. In fact...I'm sure I don't. The arguing I see in threads is physically making me ill. I can understand what people mean by toxic behavior. This site has become nothing short of disgusting to me. I come back over and over thinking it is improving...it is not....it's getting much worse.

I just can't understand all of this...I go through my life on a daily basis...and I've never had an argument. Especially with people, I don't even know?

You won't see me here again. I don't want to be a part of this.

Best Regards,

Liquid Cool

I just replaced an EVGA GTX 1060 3 GB with an MSI GTX 1660 Ti Armor 6G OC and I couldn't be happier. I paid $300 for the 1660 Ti and sold my 1060 for $90. So for $210 I scored a great upgrade that stays cool and OC's well.

GTX 1660 Ti without a doubt. The cheapest ones are under 300eur here in Finland, the price/performance is pretty damn great there.
