whats wrong with my HD??

i started to notice that unpacking large rar´s and processing big data took ages so i ran the speed test for the HD (thru device manager-- sata controllers ) and the results was following:

(millions of bytes per seconds)
limit: 150
burst speed 66.9
sustained speed 2.7

is my HD dying or whats wrong thnx in advance

Maybe you still have the sata 1.5 limiter jumper in the hard drive? I've got the same drive, this is what I get.

i have 4 partitions on this drive. could that explain the slow speed??? ahvent checked the jumper. might aswell do that now.
2.7 mb/s for sustained speed isnt that good...

ok removed the jumper and have now 3gb/s , but everything else ie the sane

I'm not even sure what sustained speed is actually. I look around and some people say that 40mb/s is what they are getting on their drives, for sustained speed, and that was just the first thing I clicked in google. The jumper should be out though, all open.

Maybe new chipset drivers are needed, I dunno. You could download SyTools, from sygate, if you have a few hours to kill, scan your drive with it and if it gives errors, you can RMA the thing, and try out a new one, I hate RMAing things though. I had to RMA the first 250Gb Barracuda I got, weird problems with it.

i ran the long test a moth ago. Ghost said something about partitions, could that be the problem???

Download Seatools or UBCD and run their testing on it...If it is found to be faulty with their software then I would be worried, but until there is a deffinate answer on this , we are just guessing.

If you run the HDD short and long tests it will show possible bad sectors and the like, also the long test has a built in repair feature that may solve the issue!

By the way UBCD (ultimat boot cd) has lots of goodies all on one disc, just needs to be burned to an ISO. A must have IMHO for anyone planning to work on their own PC!

ok solved! i turned pagefile back on and sustained speed jumped back to 77 sec. clad i switched to jumper too, because the insainly loud noise stopped
