Software Windows 10 Professional (64bit)
Benchmark Scores Typical for non-overclocked CPU.
For me the one with the most fond memories was Stunts 4D Sports driving (PC).

This one even had a map editor for making custom tracks. If you managed to hit the top of a bridge head on at full speed the game physics would glitch and send the car straight into the air.

But also who could forget Super Mario Cart (SNES) or RC Pro AM (NES)

Adding Wipeout HD / Wipeout HD Fury (PS3)

For me its still Assetto Corsa very large modding community and with new CSP and Reshade it still looks great for a 2014 Game!

One of the first racing game I use to play (My Profile Pic is from this game)
Street Rod / Hot Rod has the best tunes

For SIMs I can't choose between classic GT (PS1-2) and modern Forza, I'll just say both.
For arcade it's Burnout 3 Takedown, that game was just ridiculous in all the best possible ways.

The original Gran Turismo or Ridge Racer Type 4 hard for me to pick one over the other. Project Gotham Racing is up there as well.

I really enjoyed San Francisco Rush 2049 but hard for me to put it above any of the 3 above.

I played that at college when I was 15, DAMN! Loved the physics where you could slide the car out...

World Grand Prix on Sega Master System was like Hang-On but you had a track editor.
Mario Kart on SNES. Me and my Mum popping each others balloons in battle mode.
Sega Rally on Saturn. Me and my Mum used to try to jump over each other on the jumps in the Desert track.
Gran Turismo 1 2 3 4. Used to be the biggest fanboy of these and the "Realistic Handling"(LOL)
Burnout 3 Takedown. Didn't play it all that much, but my Mum loved it. Good fun though!
Then I played Live For Speed, got a Logitech Driving Force Pro and became rather good at it.
Now my favourite of all time Forza Motorsport 2. Got into it bigtime and had a tuning club and record-breaking cars.
Can't wait for the current Forza to be released, but I'm broke so that'll have to wait.

Sorry to waffle.

Edit for my Mum's top driving game.

NFS Porsche Unleashed is definitely at the top of my list. Played many racing games afterwards, but nothing really came close to it in getting right the balance between realism and "arcadiness".
And if you have a decent racing wheel and like realism, then GRID or DIRT.

I still remember Test Drive. I was playing that game a lot of whilst on the university.

A couple of month ago i bought Assetto Corda. It is said that there the Nordschleife is quite realistic. I also have a (Trucksimulater) names American Truck Simulator 2. But both are more for rehabilitation than just for fun. Round about 6 Years ago i had a tough surgery on my right foot. Four toes were amputated. Also a part of the forefoot. Whilst healing i had a couple more surgeries. I had to wear a orthese. That one made some pressure punctures so that i had to take it off and sit in a wheel chair instead. So i lasted for at least 3 yrs in a wheel chair. By that the foot got to it's resting position and stuck there. The actual state is that i cannot move the foot on it's own around. With that and the need to drive a car in mind i got those 2 games and also a racing wheel with the pedals. I will have to train driving capabilities with those games. That is much safer than testing on public roads. ;)

If this stage will keep i will have to reposition throttle and break. I think about the gear shifters at the steering wheel. If my left foot gets better it will be possible to swith throttle and gas at the pedals.

Ah the good ol Stunts, probably the first racing game I've played as a kid. 'loved to mess around with the map editor'

Other than that a few that comes to mind:

FlatOut 2 'just pure fun with a great soundtrack'
NFS Most Wanted 'I did like NFS 4 and Underground 1-2 but MW is my fav'
Burnout Paradise 'did not play the rest cause my family never had a console..'
Split Second 'this is still installed on my PC, great fun game too bad the second game never happened'

And I'm not sure if Carmageddon 2 counts but I've played an unhealthy ammount of that game in my elementary school years.
Also played some of the Colin Dirt rally games and the first GRID which I've liked quite a bit.

Tbh I don't really like sim racing games more like the arcade/nonsense type ones.

Ridge Racer Type 4 is arcadey but man you can't hate that game. The soundtrack in that game is just amazing, I put it in my radio so I listen to it while driving  This two games, well mostly GT2 to be specific the reason that I been driving anywhere like I'm racing lol

I just remembered being blown away by it on release wasn't really expecting it to be as good as it was. I was in 8th grade when it came out so I had to be somewhat picky my parents only bought me 2-3 games a year the rest I would have to do odd jobs mowing lawns etc to pick up so my appreciation for games back then was a lot higher I would say.

Need for Speed 2 was my first ever PC game, and will always have a special place in my heart.

Some more favourites are Need for Speed 3 (Hot Pursuit), 4 (High Stakes) Underground 2 and Most Wanted (2005), also Burnout Paradise.

When it comes to racing sims, I played the heck out of GTR 2, Richard Burns Rally, and right now I've got Nascar Heat 5 installed, but haven't got around to playing it due to it only working with a game pad or steering wheel, and I'm too lazy to set up my wheel just for one game.

The Dirt Rally games are pretty nice, too. Oh, and Racedriver: Grid.

A couple games I forgot to mention above that I really enjoyed and honestly there are way too many awesome racing games to name them all anyway was Sega Rally 2 and Daytona USA both where so awesome at the local Arcades growing up I really miss the days of having fun at the Arcades.

This genre in general would be Like me picking out my favorite JRPG impossible there are way too many.

If you want to talk about Arcade the sit down version of OUtrun was good but there was another Rally style came that I can't remember that was great Daytona USA had the Graphics but for me Outrun was pretty Organic.
