As 2019 draws to a close, we ask our readers which of the above games they played qualifies as Game of the Year.

Our list of games includes games we played ourselves, some of which we even made articles on.

You needn't base your choices on technical aspects or eye-candy alone, but a game that's a complete package of engaging gameplay, lore, replayability, ease of play, lack of publisher-gluttony, and then eye-candy.

We will publish the results of this poll in a year-end article. We won't do a TIME POY, our GOTY will be based on popular choice alone.

Sadly I only played The Outer Worlds from that list and while I found it enjoyable, it certainly is no GOTY material, so I'll abstain. Based purely on reading opinions on the 'net I'd probably go Disco Elysium, Sekiro, Control.

Only played BL 3 and DMC 5 from that list so my opinion is kinda limited but for me this game:

A Plague Tale: Innocence

I barely knew about this game till it was relased but it surprised me nicely, really enjoyed the whole story and the game in general.

Did play BL 3 for 100+ hours and its fun and I plan on playing it more but its not a GOTY type of game for me.

The only game I've played on the list is WoW Classic although back then it was just called WoW...

P.S. Is RdR2 still a mess after the two patches Rockstar said the game didn't need but they were still releasing anyway?

I didn't vote. I looked through that list, and realized I havent played a single one of them.

The only game I've bought this year was the Master Cheif Collection, and while its a great trip down memory lane, it isnt GOTY material.

Shout out to the homies that voted for Control.

I had to vote Metro Exodus because my other choice was not on the list. That would have been A Plague Tale: Innocence as a strong contender to Metro Exodus. I honestly would have had to flip a coin, despite them being two different genre's and playstyles. The story in Plague was excellent, and you really felt deeply for the characters.

That being said, Metro Exodus had the gripping story, excellent voice-acting, great gunplay, believable stealth and the unquantifiable factor: Attention to Detail. The Attention to detail was in what people did in idle time, conversations, etc. There was a real sense that life was moving along even when the character was not present. The cherry on top was a high level of graphical detail, even without RTX. I feel that it is the pinnacle of SP gaming right now.

If there was a runner-up category, the clear awardee for me would be Control. The gameplay mechanics were a breath of fresh air, as was the level design! It was held together by enough of a story to make me definitely want to continue and finish. I had fun, despite dying at least 75 times.

The Outer Worlds was the wacky action fun I expected and was glad to play. I enjoyed it, even played it twice, back-to-back, but it was no GOTY.

Disco Elysium - the ultimate RPG narrative and unique reproduction of an actual RPG. The story was great, characters were fantastic and the game almost made me cry multiple times throughout the entire playthrough. I'm happy to hear they won in every category that they were nominated.

Is there a DLC for it? It's on my deal alert list but if they have a DLC for it I may wait for an all in one offering.

There is already one out, but the big one I am waiting for is in January or February. It will be a new story arc with one of the characters in Exodus.

You should try Satisfactory.

This is really tough for me. My heart wants to say Metro:Exodus but I have like 35 hours in RDR2 and I'm not even out of Chapter 2.

The story is fantastic in Exodus but the ending pissed me off. The world of RDR2 is amazing.

A long hard look at the list makes me sad, because I realize I don't actually like any of the games in it. I finished Control and the Star Wars game tho' so I voted for it, but I can't say it was exceptional in any way. At least I got to fool around with a light saber and the last boss was quite challenging in the highest difficulty, I think I took maybe 30-40 tries to kill her. Borderlands 3 is generic and bad, Metro was... boring and kind of clunky, Gears 5 - rather boring, too similar to past games, and Outer Worlds, meh, I expected something of a more classical, non-Fallout experience, I kinda dislike the games where you can loot all sorts of generic trash and have to sort through the inventory. When I loot stuff in single player, I want to be relevant and exciting. Used to tolerate the spam of irrelevant items better in the past in games like Skyrim and even Dragon Age Inquisition.

The Outer Worlds, Metro Exodus, Disco Elysium, and Control are all single player only games with strong narratives. I’m not sure exactly what you are meaning if that isn’t what you are saying.

Ahhh, I understand what you mean now. I can certainly check for you on Control, The Outer Worlds. I know Metro Exodus will start up Epic automatically. Not all their games do, so I will check for you.

Disco Elysium you can pick up on GOG and install just the game files without Galaxy, and you can play it offline.

EDIT: @Athlonite Control and The Outer Worlds, which I have both on EGS, start without starting the launcher, by clicking on the game executable. They will need to be installed through the launcher first though.

I have only played one game on that list, and none of them would ever make my game of the year list, not even the game wasted $60 on because the streamer I played with played it for maybe a week. I havent play it since.

I gotta wonder, when you look at the list of games, what is the targeted age demographic for those games? I'd nominate 7 Days to Die but its an early access game still, but I think The Bards Tale:Barrow Deep would be a better choice for this list. Having WoW Classic on that list is ridiculous since its the only AAA MMORPG on it. I hate WOW with a passion (really only sometimes  ), seeing it that list makes me wonder why Hello Kitty or Sailor Moon games are not listed.

I will not be voting at this time

Well for about half of them the target demographic is a definite adult.

WoW during Vanilla-Burning Crusade was pretty much the peak in gaming for me personally. I raided religiously, to a somewhat high level, around top 50-100. Back then gaming was still a thing nerds did and not a demonized/mocked pseudo-identity of sorts, and raiding in WoW was (not always) a place for pure meritocracy, at least in the higher level guilds where killing bosses remained more important than giving preferential loot to your GF.
I would not touch it these days though. What was, was, and is history now. I'm really not a big fan of nostalgia. Create something new and just as good or GTFO.

I'm an adult and I dont feel its targeted at my age bracket. IDK who all has seen age demographic charts before, but saying adult is like saying your car tires are flat on one side. :p
