I'm sorry to ask how to choose a mobile phone, or when I should buy one. I've been using my current iPhone for almost four years, and there's no sign of lag, but the back is broken, the storage is not enough, and I'm paying extra iCloud fees every month. There's also a tariff system, so I don't know whether I should change my iPhone now or wait for the new iPhone 17 series to come out, but I'm afraid that the iPhone will become much more expensive because of the tariff.

Well, there is a promotion recently, and the price of the iPhone 16 Pro with twice the storage is cheaper than what I bought before! So I have to buy it first.

I'd say to buy when you have a need to buy, either because you've got that itch or because your current phone is deficient.

I'm still rocking an iPhone XS I bought used and while Apple is dropping support for it on iOS 26, they usually still provide about two years of security updates after the successor iOS comes out.

Given that the XS can do everything I require it to and is reasonably performant at it, I suppose I'll figure out my 'next phone' situation sometime 2027.
If you're not in a hurry, why not just wait and see? The tariff situation will (probably) work itself out at some point.

I bought my XS Max in like 2018.. but had to stop using it because I broke it. Up until then it did everything my 14 Pro does.. well.. almost..

This phone is almost 2 years old, and is running iOS 26 right now. I looked at new phones, and discounted phones both from my carrier.. not worth it to me to switch.

I will say the battery in this phone compared to my Max is.. not as good. I am already at 90%, after 3 years my Max was at 90%.. and I used it a lot more than I do this one.

My Max is only the 256GB model.. this one is 1TB and is a little more than half full.

I have an iPhone 11 pro (bought refurb) and don't plan to replace it until apple stops providing it with updates.
Apple has a refurb program were you can buy 1 or 2 gen old phones at a discount.

Even without tariffs iPhones are expensive, ask around for quotes on how much the repair is… if you think your battery is not keeping up then change that as well… much much cheaper than buying new… if you are on x 11 12 use it for 6 years… that’s when Apple stops providing updates, as with storage what are ya keeping I’m just transferring photos to my desktop
