My hard drive is 111 gb and Ive got 45gb left.Pc is still running strong so is there a time when I should invest in say an external hard drive or not let it get below a certain limit?

I'm actually curious about this as well. Every "expert" I ask says to not let it get below X% or performance will lower. I get a different X% with every person I ask. Its a nonissue for me though, I have about 750GB total and have never used more than 15-20% or so.

i would say keep at least 15% free so you can still defrag, other than that, there's really no program/os that needs a specific amount free to operate.

I like to keep at least 20 gigs free on mine, otherwise, it seems to chop on me.

I think it really depends on each individual setup and WIN configuration. I've never let my HDD get below 30g - but that's rare for me.

If you're that worried about space, though - it might be worthwhile to finally getting around to manually cleaning out crap. Go through each individual folder and toss what you don't need anymore.

I don't let any of my HDD's get below 50%. That's just me being picky though.
