Hi guys, I've currently got an Antec 620 cooling my main rig and wondered when I should think about replacing it as it is getting pretty old now.

I'm only a little worried about things like the rubber tubing deteriorating or pump failing or something like that and then it may begin to leak or overheat. I've had it since I went to Sandy Bridge back in January 2011.

Am I just being anxious or is it something I should think about?

If the pump fails you don't have much to worry about, in my opinion. CPU will throttle itself or crash. I've had my i7 3720QM running at close to 100C on F@H for two years, still chugging, haha. Though I finally got a stuck screw out and put some decent TIM on it. Temps down 15C.

My H80i failed recently after only 5 months. Coolant start getting up to 75C and CPU throttled. As far as tube deteriorating, I'm not sure. How long was the original warranty?

i agree, tbh i don't think you have much to worry about unless the pump goes, if the pump does go just toss it out. i have a thermaltake water 2.0 pro since it first came out and it's been great since day one, and same as my water 2.0 extreme which is also awesome

Look at the fittings closely and see if the plastic bands that hold the tubing, or any of the tubing itself is showing signs of cracking or dry rotting. Other than that, look at the warranty itself, the 3 years they offer is likely what they feel is about the lifespan of the product on average. Some will go way sooner, and some will last longer, but with all factors combined it will give you a rough idea of when to ponder a replacement.

I hate saying wait for it to fail, but as long as the bios is left to allow for thermal shutdown. I wouldn't be too worried. From a guy who tests coolers, and have had them fail for various reasons, I can safely say it does not damage the CPU, as I am still testing with two CPUs that I personally took over throttle temps a handful or two of times, each.

I would not worry to much, Antec have good quality overall and I still have a Kuhler 920 going strong in a rig I rebuilt for a friend (I gave him that cooler). Normally the basic assumed lifespan (At least for me) is in the range of 5 years. Your going on 3 now and the Antecs normally have the warranty end around 3 years so you should be getting on in time but nothing to seriously worry about. Machines in this day and age are alot safer when it comes to things like over heating and such that if it did just stop working your machine would stop itself.

My advice is to not exceed 5 years on it, but you should be good for now. I would just make sure to double check it every so often just to make sure there are no odd wear and tear patterns.

Cool thanks for your input guys. Yeh the warranty was 3 yrs. I just had a quick look at the rubber tubing and scraped it a little with my fingernail to see if it was degrading. It doesn't seem to be which is great. I'll probably look at upgrading it in a years time as I won't be using it for the first half of next year as I'll be away.
